Question about Chevrolet Astro

1 Answer

Help! the latch will not release on one side of the the top swing up door of the rear dutch door(s) on our 2000 Chevy AWD Astro Van. When depressing the lock/unlock button on the rear upper door it will release the electronic lock on the right hand side, but not the left hand side. I can figure out how to get it open to troubleshoot/replace the left side lock or electronic locking parts.

This is a tough one to fix. You have to remove the panel from the inside of the door. What has happened is the rod that moves the lock and unlock mechanism has fallen out of place, or is in a bind. And you have to take the door panel off to get to it. I am not sure if you will be able to get the panel off with the door closed. But once you get the panel off then it will be an easy fix.

I have the Chevy Astro AWD 1998 passenger van with the three part rear door (tilt up window and then split half doors). The handle broke off of the right side primary door. Is there a way to get the door...

just take off the inside panel and look inside the should be some tiny silver bars that either pull up or go side to side, then pull that should open it. also you can get to the handle from the inside access and replace from an auto parts store

99 astro , upper rear door latch stuck on right side. can the latch assembly be reached from the interior ?

Ok here is what I just did. From the inside I removed the handle bolts and the two screws on both ends. (Be sure the other side is pushed in and latched). Then I used a punch and removed the two hinge pins on the roof. ***WITH SOME HELP*** push the release button. Careful for the door will pop out due to the cylinders pushing outward. At that point I removed the molding to access the latch. *Note---there are two more screws on both ends of the molding.* From the inside you can now reach the latch and release it. Again be careful the other cylinder will push out and the door will drop until it reaches the end of the cylinder stroke. Now you will need to re-pin the hinges at the top. From there I located the broken plastic clip that caused all this discuss. I temporarily removed the latch so I can still use the van until I get to the parts store plus it seems as if it will be easier to replace the clip. GOOD LUCK ! ! !

1996 Chevy Astro van rear hatch release solenoid not responding.

you remove the handle in the center of the rear hatch. if you look closely you will see two small snap covers that hide two screws.once you do this you will see a small bar that is actuated by the solenoid from the switch. try the switch to see what way the smalll bar inside moves the use a screwdriver to complete the disconnection. hope this helps.

99 Astro lift door latch left side inoperative

I slammed the door shut one time and the door wood not open at all. I had to take the inside door handle off and found that the cables simply came off of their post (inside the door) on the outside part of the door handle. More than likely only one cable has come off its post on your van. I hope this helps!
