Not much. 1. Keep the tires inflated properly; that makes a big diff. 2. Don't carry anything you don't need...keep it light. 3. Use the lowest octane fuel that will work without the engine making noise(knocking or pinging). 4. Never use a roof rack! (Skis or bike, luggage etc) 5. Do your maintenance on time/keep the thing tuned. 6. Don't jackrabbit start. (making the tires go real fast from a stop) Get quickly to the speed you want and stay there. Changing speed uses more fuel. 7. Slow down. After about 55 MPH most vehicles start using relatively much more fuel. 8. Use the air conditioner and keep the windows closed. Newer car air conditioners are very efficient but old cars weren't so some old timers will tell you to not use the air but that's only for older models. 9. Don't leave the engine running when you're not moving. 10. Don't warm-up the engine in the morning to clear the ice. Use a scraper, drive slowly until the engine warms.(but make sure you can see)

Check your air filter, tire pressure, minimize the amount of weight in the car, dont carry unnecessary objects, check your owner's manual for the recommended fuel and dont speed off from a light or stop sign, try to stay under 55 mph and mantain a certain speed.

How do I get better gas mileage for my 2005 F-150? It now gets 11.5 mpg. In the past it averaged about 15 Any suggestions please

you could change the exhaust to a free flowing muffler. Should pay for itself after a a few tankfulls. Increasing the diameter of the exhaust pipe after the catalytic converter by one size will be helpful. If you have a 1.25" diameter pipe going into converter and then going to 1.5" after the converter.

This is what is known as a cat back modification. Should be cheap to have done at an exhaust shop for an F150.

Will sound better and run a little different. DO not need to go to a big expensive or name brand system, it will not affect emissions and should improve mileage and power. The idea is that you are releasing the heat faster and not changing the emissions of the vehicle.

Putting in a free flowing muffler is no big deal and should be easy enough to get a name brand model. Just do not spend a lot of money for this trick.

I would like to know how to get better gas mileage on a car-do I need a new air filter-it is only a 4 cylinder car.

The best way to improve gas mileage is to change your driving habits. K&N filters claim they can increase mileage, but there really is not 'miracle device' that can do so. Make sure the vehicle is running well, plugs and wires are all in good shape, air and fuel filters are clean.

Stay on highways as much as possible, and drive around with a glass of water that has no lid and is filled pretty high. Attempt to drive without spilling the water. This will drastically improve economy.

I only get 14 mpg in the city with my 2002 pt cruiser, how can I improve this

Couple of things to improve mileage; Fresh tune up - all fluids, filters, plugs, wires ESPECIALLY fuel filter. Run a good fuel system treatment through it (STP, Gumout..) Check tire pressures - specs on drivers door sticker. One last thing AVOID cheap gas.

I have a 81 f-100 that is getting 10.8 miles per gallon I have rebuilt the carb (2 bbl) checked the compression and tuned it and set the timing and everything checks out ok what else is there to check??...

First off these rigs were never noted for good MPGs but admittedly 10.8 is bad. When you tuned it did you replace plug wires, fuel filter? Another thing you might try - if you have access to a vac gauge - Older Fords harmonic balancers outer ring was pressed on and after many miles it can move throwing off timing mark. If you have vac gauge, connect to full vac source on intake manifold, when fully warmed up, loosen distributor hold down, turn distributor until you get your highest reading, then back off by 2-3 lbs of vac. Tighten distributor. I advise closer to 3lbs of vac down because it might ping at 2lbs.

I have a FORD Econolinen 1993. When I drive he abuse 45 ltres of gaz on 100 miles . Is this normale ?

on normal that trk should be around 6-7 gallons used per one hundred miles drove. i based that at 15 mpg. now that is also based on a V8 engine. now 1 gallon of gas is 3.78541178 liters which totals 12 galons of gas to 45.42494136 liters. This would mean that it took 12 gallons of gas to travel 100 miles which totals 8.3333333333 mpg. not as good as i would have thought. 8 miles per gallon (mpg) hell that engine must be a big block 460. If it is that big cubic inch i could understand but any other motor should do better mpg than 8.3. so i agree that is not normal, tune up, or look for fuel leak in the fuel supply or( feed ) line. From the tank to the motor. This must be a canadian truck yes? well hope for the best or trade that guzzler in for a new breed. stay warm!

I got a 97 vision 3.5. i have bad gas mileage (about 8-10 mpg) what all can i do to help improve that?car also overheats only when idling anyone know causes for this?

When is the last time you had a tune up? Have you changed the spark plugs lately? An often overlooked item is the air cleaner. A plugged air cleaner can take 3 or 4 miles a gallon off your average. You can purchase a K&N cold air induction or a cheaper brand, this includes the cleanable air filter and chrome air intake hose, replacing the stock. This should improve your gas milage by 4 or 5 miles per gallon.

I have pt cruiser 2.4 manual. Why am i only getting 25 mpg. 31.000 miles on clock

The government fuel economy specs for your year PT Cruiser are between 24 and 26 mpg highway, depending on what transmission you have (auto, 4spd standard, 5 spd standard), so you are getting what you should. Unfortunately, the PT Cruiser can't do any better than that. It does seem that a car that size would do better, but Chrysler needs to improve gas consumption on all it's vehicles, that is one reason they are in such trouble now.

usualy it is 20 miles to the gallon and to improve your gas mileage i would do a tune up... spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter. and add tune up in a can its only like $4.00 from autozone. and also replace your airfilter, add air to your tires like 35 psi. and clean your fuel system .
