I JUST CHECKED AND CLEANED AND RE-SET GAP ON PLUGS BEFORE I WASHED THE ENGINE. IT HAS BEEN A WEEK SINCE I DID THIS AND THE MISFIRE IS STILL CO9MING UP ON THE OBD CODE. THE PLUGS WERE LIKE NEW.

I CLEANED AND RE-GAPPED PLUGS BEFORE I WASHED ENGINE. THE PLUGS WERE PERFECT.

I'M AT WORK RIGHT NOW. WHEN I GET HOME I WILL CHECK THIS OUT MORE AND GET BACK TO YOU. THERE ARE SO MANY SENSORS AND ETC. ON THIS CAR, THAT I THOUGHT IT MAY BE SOMETHING OTHER THAN A PLUG WIRE.

  • okie6 Sep 13, 2010

THATS MORE ALONG WITH WHAT I WAS THINKING. I'M GOING TO INVESTIGATE MORE THIS EVENING WHEN I GET HOME. WILL GET BACK WITH YOU, TOMORROW.

If the plug is good and it just started, then coil is bad or plug wire is worn out and is shorting

    1. Let me know how it goes. If there is a misfire, the plug, coil, wire, or injector

Misfire on #1 is a very common problem when the engine gets wet. When you are washing down the engine the spark plug wires get wet and the spark from the spark plug goes to ground instead of firing the spark plug. And the reason that it is only doing it on one cylinder is because you probably need to change the spark plugs soon. A plug will misfire when they get carbon built up on them. And you will sometimes get more carbon built up on one certain plug, due to blow by. This is not anything at all to worry about. I would suggest maybe changing spark plugs.

What about the wire? When you pull the wire off of the plug and re seat the wire is it snapping on good? The reason why I am saying that I think that it is not a coil pack, is because when the coil packs go bad they usually misfire when the engine warms up. The coil pack is nothing more than what it says, a coil of copper wire. When the copper heats up, it expands. When it expands, if there is a problem with the coil it will lose connection. And that is why I say that it is not a coil pack. I am almost sure it is a plug or plug wire.

I have a 1996 ETC. I agree there are a lot of sensors on the car. But getting a misfire on just one cylinder is like you mentioned the coil pack, the plug or the wire. And it still could be the coil pack. If the outer casing of the coil pack is cracked and getting water in the coil. It could be shorting the coil pack out. The way it tells if the cylinder misfires is the amount of fuel in the exhaust. So it has to be one of these three things. I always try to save my customers money. That is why I started with spark plugs. Then wires. I wouldn't want someone to go out and buy a $300 part when it could be a $5. part causing the problem.

Car sputtering badly. Codes P303 n P102 show on diagnostics and have replaced both parts associated with these codes,PLUS, new fuel filter, engine still sputtering badly.

Hi,

I hope I can help with this. This could mean the engine spark plugs or plug is the issue. Also check the exhaust pipe. White smoke indicates a coolant issue. Check your coolant reservoir. Black smoke indicates a Fuel issue. Blue is an oil issue. Also, speaking of your spark plugs there very well could be a misfire.

the code P303 could be cylinder 3 misfire
P102 the mass air flow sensor which is on the air filter cover. It's an electrical part and is sensor. Please check these and let me know.

sounds like the coil packs but could also be fuel related ,i assume you have had the OBD codes read ,check for spark at the leads before getting new coil pack(s)

Misfire in two cylinders

Check to see if the two cylinders misfiring are on the same coil pack. If so, change the coil pack in question.

This happened to me on 1997 Cadillac Deville Limousine.

Also, check for a blown head gasket with compression test.
