Question about 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada

Can I replace just the fuel level sensor/indicator, rather than replace my entire fuel pump, or is it one piece? My truck kills when the gas gauge gets to about 1/4 tank or less, but no other time. We think the piece in the gas tank that senses the fuel level needs replacing. I hate to replace the whole pump if I don't have to because I don't feel the pump is bad, not to mention they cost a fortune!!!

Yes it is possible to replace the fuel level potentiometer or even try to see if this can be repaired.
You will need to drain the tank and take the unit out to check for corrosion or worn out windings.
If a meter can be used to check the rating of the resistors you can check to see if the winding can be repaired.

You'll more than likely have to replace the whole thing. If cost is a concern, go to an auto wrecker. You can probably get the tank and pump together for cheap.

On my 99 taurus I have two problems.first the fuel gauge isn't reading accurately,it stayin at 3/8 full.along with that gauge the temp gauge isn't moving it stays at cold.second major problem it...

You might have to get the fuel pump out of the tank and clean the patenchio meter which moves up and down, clean it with an eraser on the end of the pencil for best results.
As for the temp guage, check the temp sensor it might have grounded.
Strange whining could be from the loose belt check tensioner, power steering pump for pressure, sterring rack might be seasing/leaking internally.

Gas gauge quit working. Is there a fuse or sensor?

It sounds like your Fuel Level Sending Unit, usually located with the Fuel Pump inside the gas tank, has gone out. The Fuel Level Sending Unit sends the signal to your ECU, and then it goes to the Fuel Level gauge. Replace the Fuel Level Sending Unit and your gauge should be back to normal.

My gas gage does not work. After I fill up with gas...withing 20-30 minutes it goes all the way down to empty. Should this be fixed or would it be too expensive to fix. The car is a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am...

Either your gauge is bad or the fuel level sender is. Most likely it's the sender in the gas tank. To replace it you would have to drain the fuel tank and pull the fuel pump/sender assembly and replace. You cannot just replace the fuel level sender with this car, the entire assembly must be changed out.

I have a Saturn 93, 4DR, SL1, the fuel gauge does not work properly, is it the sensor or the pump or what, please help!

Hello, The fuel level sensor is mounted on the fuel pump module assembly. To replace you have to remove the gas tank and take the fuel pump module out of the tank to replace the fuel level sensor.

Fuel gauge is reading empty, and the low fuel light is on. My tank is full. Where should I start looking?

the fuel level sensor in your fuel pump has gone bad. it is intergral to the entire sending unit assembly (fuel pump), and is located inside the gas tank. you must lower the gas tank to gain access. good luck!

Gas gauge not working properly on a 04 dodge stratus 4 door 2.7 does the fuel pump and sending unit need to be replaced?

The fuel level sending unit is causing the problem. The fuel pump and the sending unit is one piece. So the entire unit will need to be replaced on car to correct the problem. Hope this will help you.

Gas gauge reads full when underway. However, when

Most likely it a bad fuel level sensor on you fuel pump. You will have to replace the fuel pump as that is the only way to replace the sensor for you fuel gauge. The sensor is built into the fuel pump. The contacts on the sensor become corroded over time and cause the sensor to malfunction causing your fuel gauge to read full all the time. I have a 2001 Montana extended version that had the same problem. In order to know when I needed to fill the tank, I would completely fill it each time I put fuel in and reset my trip odometer. I would go 400 miles on the tank before I would refuel until we were able to replace the fuel pump.

2000 Silverado fuel gauge shows empty at fill up. At 3/4 or less it will sometimes indicate correctly then fall to empty causing the "low fuel" indicator to display.

Bad fuel level sensor. Depending on miles go ahead and replce fuel pump its got to come out anyway to replace level sensor.
