Sounds like a bad sender. The sender is a variable resistor attached to a float in the gas tank. Often the sender itself goes bad and often the float becomes corrupted, taking on fluid and giving bad reading. The fix is to drop the tank and replace the unit, while you are at it I would go ahead and do the pump too as it is 10 years old and you do not want to duplicate the labor next year when the pump goes bad.

Why fuel gauge not working gas guage on 2009 santa fe stays on empty even with a full tank of gas. Guage fluctuates from empty to 3/4 full to empty to 1/3 full at any given time.

It could be the sending unit in the tank or the gauge on the dash. A mechanic would test the signal coming from the sending unit to verify.

GAS GUAGE NOT WORKING

It could be a problem with your electrical system, or it could just be a faulty sensor. You should probably consult a mechanic.

Gas Guage stays full for a long time

Usually a sign of a faulty sending unit in the tank. If that is the problem it would need to be replaced or repaired.
You could start at close to empty and then check the resistance of the sending unit with a VOM meter as you add fuel to the tank.

Gas guage falls and rises

This problem is causes by a defective fuel level sending unit, The sending unit is located inside the gas tank and the gas tank must be removed from the car and the fuel pump module (contains level sensor) replaced to correct the problem. This job requires a hydraulic floor jack, safety stands to hold the car in the air safely and a very good set of common hand tools plus a special tool to remove the fuel lines from the tank. Time to complete is about 4 hours on the ground.

Gas guage-oxygen sensor?

The oxygen sensor has nothing to do with the fuel gauge. There are two possibilities for the gas gauge error, first it could be the in-tank gas level sensor or it could be a defective stepper motor which drives the gauge. A professional scan tool can determine the fuel level being sent by the in-tank sensor, if that disagrees with the gauge, then the stepper motor needs replacing.

2004 Dodge Stratus gas guage starts to go empty

You likely need a new fuel sending unit (it's in the trunk, and is what drives the gauge).
