Recently, my chrysler sebring has been acting up. Randomly, it will do this in the following order at any time (idling, cruising at 50mph, stopping to turn, accelerating): I notice a belt squeaking under my hood (passenger side), my gauges all fall flat (go to zero), the dash lights (headlights were on) surge or get very bright for about 2-3 seconds, then things pop back to normal and my stereo trips out for long enough for me to reach for it and it cuts back on. I have driven my car a total of about an hour (50 miles) and it has happen 4 times. My father is trying to figure out what is wrong with it, and he says that it isn't the alternator, and he thinks it may be the computer, but doesn't want to put $400 into one if it won't solve the problem. PLEASE HELP ME!! Thank you :-)

Re: Chrysler Sebring - acting strange
Could be a few things with the charging system, and I'd bet on these before I thought about a computer. Check to see if the belt is tight, because it is squealing, and if it's loose, it won't spin the alternator fast enough (or at all) to charge the system. It doesn't take a whole lot of time and $$ to take the alternator off, take it to an automotive place and have them test it to make sure it is charging. Check the connections on the back of the alternator as well as the battery to make sure everything is clean and in good contact. Those are the most cost-effective things to do, and any mechanic would be checking the same things. Just remember to start with the simple things first and move forward from there. Good Luck!

My daughter's 01 Sebring key doesn't have a chip, but the short battery cable was almost completely corroded through, acting like a dead battery. Check the cables for bad connections, too. I think both the pos and neg sides are each made of two short cables.
P0513 stands for invalid SKIM Key. Basically it means that the "computer chip" that is in your ignition key which has a special code is not recognized by your vehcile compter (PCM). In most cases that I have come across is that either your VIN is not entered or is the incorrect VIN programmed into the PCM. Have you recently changed the PCM ? You may try another ignition key but I doubt that would work unless you are using the wrong key for the vehicle. You will need special diagnostic computer programs in order to correct this problem. Most likely your PCM will need to be "Flashed" to the VIN. This really isn't a weekend/backyard/part time mechanic fix. Hope this helps you to understand what the code is and what it means. Guessing the vehicle won't start.....
I have the same problem with my 99 sebring lxi, I'm getting a new ecu for the transmission and the engine, hopefully that fixes it. Did the car randomly die and wouldn't start again or when driving keep the transmission in one gear and wouldn't change?
HI. Here is the complete line up of specs concerning your vehicles front and rear tires. You did not post the trim line of this car, so I posted all models and tire combination's specified by the manufacture.

i would doulbe check the alternator or the regulation device of the alternator. to me it looks like the regulator dos not regulate any more. if that happens, the battery takes over regulation and bruns out doing that.
so my advice is to duble, tripple, qadruple check the alternator and regulator, replace the regulator anyway. does not cost too much if not fixed integrated in the alternator. then get a new battery. then everything should be fine.
