Yes you will need to remove the steering column and the dash, also center console if equiped, empty freon from the ac system, this is done to be able to remove the box with core.

How to remove the heater core on 94 mercury cougar

Removing the Old Core
  • Disconnect the Mercury Cougar's negative battery cable. Remove the center console from the interior. Disarm the car's air bag system and remove the bag's diagnostic monitor and bracket.

  • Take the heater outlet floor duct out of the car. Remove the screw holding the air transfer duct and push it into the outlet duct. Unscrew the screws retaining the outlet duct to the heater core cover and release the retaining tabs on each side to remove the duct.

  • Raise and support the Mercury Cougar, using multiple jackstands. Drain the engine coolant by removing the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator. Replace the drain plug after all the liquid flows into a clean container and disconnect the heater hoses from the core

  • Withdraw the black vacuum supply hose from the vacuum source (you can now lower the vehicle). Disconnect the same hose from the air conditioner's vacuum reservoir tank.

  • Detach the heater core cover that holds the core by releasing the retaining tabs and removing the clips. Remove the dash panel seal, vacuum hose and heater core bracket from the cover.

  • Remove the heater core from the cover and the case seal from the core

How can I remove heater core?

To remove and replace the heater core, you must pretty much tear the dashboard out of the vehicle, including disconnecting and lowering the steering column. Time consuming work, and can result in squeaks and other issues if not done correctly and carefully. Also have to deal with air bags, since they are in the dash and steering column.

Removeing heater core in 2000 mercury cougar

You really, really need to buy a manual for this. The money you save from doing it yourself will more than pay for the manual- $25.00. The entire dash has to be removed, drop the steering column. This is a job. I do them in about 6 hours. But I have done them before. Take your time and your looking at 2 days. You can do it though. Saves you a ton of money. Costs around $700.00 at a garage. part is only $25.00

How do you get the housing that holds the heater core in place I can see the heater core

That is an all day job. You have to drain the coolant and freon drop the steering column and completely remove the whole dash to take out the black box and disassemble it to remove the heater core. It's a bad design in my opinion.

How do you remove a heater core from a 2000 GMC JImmy

2000 GMC Jimmy heater core replacement in order to replace a heater core in a 2000 gmc jimmy the coolant must be completely drained and the entire dash including radio, vents and panel covers must be removed. four screws hold the top portion(closest to the windshield) in place. they can be found under the windshield defrost vent. after the entire dash is removed a safety harness under the steering column must be removed and the steering column must be dropped to the driver seat. the heater core housing(black plastic) is located right center of the dash and is a two part housing one piece on top of the other. the housing is attached to the fire wall and must detached before replacement can continue. after detaching the housing from the fire wall separate the housing by unscrewing the six screws that hold it together. the heater core is now exposed. disconnect the heater core from the two hoses and discard. installation is the uninstall process in reverse. it is a very long and drawn out process that is not accomplished in just an hour or two . make sure you have most of the day or several afternoons to finish . Good luck and take pictures with your cell phone to use as reference.

Where is my ignition switch located on 1991 mercury cougar

The switch is located under the dash near the bottom of the steering column, u will need to remove the 2 nuts securing the steering column to the dash and drop it down to access the switch, make sure you install the switch with the same adjustment as the old one. here is a picture of a switch for your car.

How do you replace a heater core in a 2000 jeep cherokee sport?

the entire air unit under the dash must come out. This requires that you remove the dash board center concle and steering column. Also on some models you must drain the AC system and then requires new Orings from Jeep. Would not do this without experience.
