My 96 largo seems to have a lag going up hillsit stays around 2000 revs i have to push the pedal to the floor then sudenly it will zoom up to 3000+ revs and when idling at the lights it starts going put...

have the OBD codes read as there are a number of things that could cause these symptoms the OBD code will pinpoint the sensor/switch at fault, i would guess at an air/fuel problem but the OBD code will give a thorough diagnosis and save you time and money searching for the fault blind, keep me posted if you wish

Pathfinder "cuts out" at 2,300 rpm

Replace your MAF, its a little pricey around $280.00 or so but this will clear the code but make sure you have the ECM reprogrammed to perform a "learning" sequence since sometimes the code will not clear even though the vehicle will run like new. This reprogramming will most likely have to be a dealer performed procedure.

The following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems. Also engine mechanical problems ca cause many drive-ability related problem such as rough idle and other symptoms

I have an 89 Excel and i got it to start and idle but as soon as you push gas it stalls. If you catch it right as soon as you start it it will rev up for about 20 secs and dies again.

You issue is common with 'AGING' vehicles.... this drivability issue is not necessarily Hyundai Excels. As vehicles age, there are 'MULITPLE' probable causes... primarily the Throttle Position Sensor (which is the MOST COMMON cause). Find a COMPETENT TECHNICIAN to bench test it! If it tests 'GOOD'.. then the diagnosis has to continue to determine the 'ACTUAL' cause.... Sorry, that's the business of 'DIAGNOSIS'.... it ALWAYS takes TIME!

My vehicle stopped dead at set of lights and would not start, called RACQ he installed new battery $165 Stated that was problem, drove less than 1/2 kilometre down road, felt the vehicle ****. Continued...

Sounds like you have a fuel issue. It could be a fuel pump cutting in and out. It could be fuel pressure regulator, or an injector not spraying correct. I think it's time to find an honest educated repairman.

The reason it all goes circuslights could be that the alternator is overcharging.
The charge rate increases as the load and engine revs go up but only supposed to be a little, thats what the voltage regulator on the alternator is for.. when the regulator fails and alternator is overcharging eventually enough power is sent through the ground to light everything up and the computer cannot run properly.
High voltage levels cause sensors to read incorrectly so the computer cannot manage the engine.. Suggest you check out the charge cicuit at idle, at 2500 and at 3500 revs (briefly!)
Charge should be between 13.5 at idle, to 14.6 at 3500
Its a starting point for diagnosis.
Note that putting the alternator on a machine at Autozone will not necessarily pick up the fault - it needs to be checked ON the vehicle.
Hope this helps

Pajero io it idles and revs for 10 minutes and won't drive or rev

Looks like your Idle Speed Control Servo is playing up. It's a device that controls your idling speed and any load compensation on the engine as well (raising the idle speed when turning the steering, whern turning your lights on...etc). A visit to the dealer should confirm the fault as they can plug in the diagnosis machine to check the proper operation of it. Let us know how you get on. Cheers.
