Question about 1991 Buick Regal

When i put my foot on the gas, the engine revs up like it's in neutral, stutters, then drives...while driving, the engine stutters to switch gears, then revs up again, then drives...sometimes it reverse's while in drive (when parked on a hill) also revs up & stutters while in reverse

Sounds like transmission speed sensor is broke and not telling tranny to shift test it with voltmeter

My mazda drifter 2.5 D don't rev over 3000 rpm and don't go over 120 km when its in 5th gear,its like limiting.What can it be it never did it?


When you rev the engine and does not go over 3000 rpm is this in neutral or when driving in gear? Some vehicles have a rev limiter to not allow rpm over certain point when in neutral gear but is typically not limited when driving vehicle. This sounds like a very low rev limit but not abnormal if you can get engine to rev higher when driving. You call a drifter so truck must be non US market. Is this engine a 2.5 liter diesel 4 cylinder motor. Might just be your top rev and speed if this is the case.

check vaccum lines. inspect throttle cable and spring. if cable is warren can stop it from releasing all the way

Transmission slipping in first gear


If you take your Foot off the GAS PEDAL, will it go into the next gear? Transmissions shift by using PRESSURE and Opening the Solenoids Passages.

You may have a Solenoid Problem or a Electrical Issue, Normally if it is shifting out of 1st and going nowhere, I would suspect a Solenoid issue.

You may has also broke the Sun Shell inside the Transmission. This is not a Troubleshooting that I can go very far with you unless I hooked up my scanner but what you need is someone to put a Scan Tool on your Expedition and see what is actually happening. Sorry to give you the Bad news but I think at the minimum, you are looking at dropping your Pan and changing out a Solenoid but you could also have a major rebuild also...

You have internal transmission damage I expect the clutches on third and fourth gear are wiped out. Its either that or a solenoid gone bad that holds those clutches pressure get it in a transmission shop soon to avoid whole transmission replacement costs.

Engine cuts out


Maybe when you went into the ditch you partially pinched your fuel line so now your not getting enough fuel to the motor?Crawl up under your car and see if you can see any damage to the fuel lines, or anything else...filter etc.
