Hi, this may be due to a sensor (PETROL ENGINE), (TOO MUCH FUEL and WETTING the SPARK PLUG) to check if the plug is black (UNBURNT FUEL). i dont know whitch sensor for sure, but, try this take the sensor CONNECTION OFF the AIR INTAKE (large pipe from the AIR FILTER), (MAF) MASS AIR FLOW. sometimes on various cars this will run o. k. BUT DO NOT BUY A (MAF) SENSOR BEFORE YOU CHECK the SPARK PLUG and TAKE the (MAF CONNECTION OFF). you can spend an awfull amount of money on sensors and is not fair because there are so many and to connect to the computer and get different results for sensors and (ECU) ENGINE CONTROL UNIT. many cars have gone to VAUXHALL MAIN DEALER AND DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM they have the best of saftware and laptops. there are many quirky sensors on all of these cars. if this works, GOOD. SOME SPARK PLUGS have 1 SINGLE GROUND with the centre electrode and SOME have 2 or 3. the 3 grounds ensure the spark less likly to short (or foul) in the inside of well of the spark plug. it is very hard for us to determin faults because we do'nt see, hear, smell of petrol / diesel, we do'nt know how much you know, if you have the correct tools, we do'nt know if the tests we send your doing them right, we do'nt know if you have damaged any parts, you may be in the next street or half way around the world. thank for reading this. gerry

I have a 97 grand cherokee larado and when I shut it off it won't start back up for a few mins..then it fires there a kill switch on it or something else wrong possibly

No kill switch. You may have a fuel pump pressure issue, it may being losing pressure after shut down due to a faulty fuel pump check valve. Do a fuel pressure leakdown test, start the engine with a fuel pressure test gage hooked to the test port on the fuel supply rail to the fuel injectors, looks like a tire valve. Start the engine and run it and check for leaks at the pressure port to the test gage, repair as needed, once you are sure the test gage is leak free shut the engine down, if the fuel pressure bleeds down very quickly then you need to replace the fuel pump.

Jaguar XJ 6 97 engine shuts down acts like its not getting gas engine will restart and 22 to 35 minutes will run for about 5 minutes then shut down again could this be a gas filter problem

Could very well be the fuel filter, try replacing it, aslo check for a cramped fuel line, if the problem persists, check the fuel pump

Engine shuts down

This is probably a bad fuel pump. Maybe the fuel pump is going bad gradually, wherein it will work now and fail after. Consider replacing your fuel pump.

Fuel pump

Yes the fuel pump runs all the time until shut down, all fuel injected cars and trucks are the same, I am curious why do you ask?
