Why would you want to replace THE WHOLE ENGINE? just replace the belt..if it snaps again, this would be a pointer to a deeper issue..

i'm not sure of the make of your car but if its like most and the belt has snapped while driving then you will be needing to replace all the valve's in the cylinder head. the only car known to not have damage is a toyota when the belt brakes... its a big job no matter what and should be done by a mechanic who has experience in doing such jobs..

Engine Number Location - 1990 Diahatsu Charade

You might be looking for a long time, because Daihatsu tended to only stamp the head with a serial number. If it's the 3 pot CB23 you will find the number on the front left corner flat of the head adjacent the rocker cover .

That is an interference motor. Your valves are trashed. Your head may or may not still be good. Most likely replace pistons.

You trying to start the car only made things worse (no offence)

Your pretty much lookin at a rebuild/replace.
