Question about 2005 Volkswagen Passat

1 Answer

My 2005 vw 2.0 Passat TDi smokes like crazy when you start it up - continues to puff out smoke until it has been fully warmed up. It has been to the workshop twice and they can't fix it. The workshop managed to increase the engine sound though. It sounds like a tractor with a fancy chassis now. They also said it may have contaminated fuel. I live in South Africa.

Tthe injectors had to be changed again (they were changed in April 2010) to stop this problem. I was informed that contaminated diesel was the problem.

Why is it when my Vw Transporter T5 warms up white smoke comes out of the exuast

Whit smoke with a sweet smell means you have a leaking engine cylinder head gasket.

Black smoke when reved sharply while in stationary position , and when i try to keep a steady speed , a slight vibration from engine every 2to4 secs then a puff of black smoke . this is in a voltswagon...

Diesel?? Black some is unburned fuel, due to poor combustion. Get a compression test, but you may also have a leaky injector.
Gas engine?? Due to too much fuel, too rich. Make sure air filter is clean, Clean up your intake and IAC system. Scan it if it continues.

I have a vw caddy tdi diesel van blowing smoke from exhaust what would make it do that.

a couple of things it could be , 1 it might be leaking valve guides+seals if they are leaking the oil drips on the pistons and when started it smokes for a while but eventually clears. 2 piston rings, if the bore is scored or you have a broken piston ring this will cause it to smoke, when engine gets to presure and the oil is thin due to being warn it can seep past either the broken ring or through the score on the bore, you can get it presure checked for that one to see if its 2. 3, being a diesel if the timing is slightly out this would cause smoke and it would be getting to much fuel in the pots to burn and you get a build up of fule that does not burn correctly, but you get other problems with that one, slow acceleration, jerkiness, that sort of thing....anyway hope that helps

Smoke emitted from the engine area

If your oil is turning milky and smoke is coming from the engine check to see if your exhaust smoke is blowing white. If it is, you've got a blown head gasket. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but good luck.

02 VW Jetta TDI with ALH engine glow plug

this is a common problem for these cars glow plugs go bad like spark plugs however the smoke would lead to bad mass airflow meter. it is not telling ecu corrcet miss. disconnect mass airflow meter. when cold see if this makes it start better. it should would means you need new m.a.f. glow plug issue take a test light place clamp on positive of battery then pull off glow plug connectors place tip of test light on glow plug the bad one will have a dull light unlike the good one which will be brighter. will need new plugs and wire harness four **** connectors and wire striper and crimper will fix concern good luck

2005 VW passat 1.9 TDi "immobiliser activated" on display

There may not be any other way to fix it except to replace your instrument panel. That's where your immobilizer is located. Or you could try this:

Try cold-booting the car. Remove both battery cables from the battery. Short the battery cables together (away from the battery) for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the battery. No guarantees - I found this info at tdiclub.com.

Smoke sometimes out of exhaust bypass

It is not an exhaust bypass or filter.

It is a booster heater , which enables quicker warm up in cold conditions.

An electronic box and sensor only kicks heater on when subzero conditions. It burns diesel , hence the smoke from underneath passenger side.

Hope this helps.

Big puff of white smoke at start up after sitting for several hours.

white smoke is water
blue smoke is oil.
nest time try and smell the white smoke see if it smells sweet?
if it does its antifreeze.
and also black smoke is fuel (like a leaky injector )
hope this helps
