Check engine light on with two codes P01131 and P0135. I change the o2 sensor in bank 1 sensor 1 and that has not helped. Dont know what to do. Any suggestions on what to do??

it is not always the 02 sensor problem on those codes, check all vacuum hoses for leaks, intake plenum gasket also cause this check too, check engine light comes on when emission gases is not of correct value, even gas tank cap leak will cause check engine light, what brand of car you got

Why do the sensor lights come on so frequently on Toyota cars

There are many sensors on the car, engine ,transmission, antilock brake and traction control depending on the model, some sensor failures can cause driveability problems and some may be emission control related issues which may not affect performance, the sensors are there to let the computer know when there is a problem which usually turns the check engine light on or one of the other systems, on todays comoputer controlled cars these sensors are absolutely necessary for emission controls and genral performance and safety issues.

Need to know how to check the oxygen sensors on a 1996 saturn sl

Don't know if this will answer it. O2 sensors send info to the computer to make adjustments to the emissions system. Over time the O2 sensors fail which cause the computer to light the "Check engine" light. Originally the "Check engine" light was dedicated to an emission system fault. Now manufactures use it for a variety of abnormalities. To know what the "check engine" light means you have to either take it to a mechanic or buy a OBDII scanner (around $100) and read the code yourself. I like to read my own codes. These scanners are good for all modern cars. Instructions are included EZ to follow.
Long story short, don't worry about it the check engine light will come on when O2 sensor fails. Happy motoring!

Check Engine Light!

Yes your cat will cause it to come on...
There is a sensor before the cat that measures the emissions from your headers, then there's another sensor after your cat that measures the emissions after it passes through your cat. a faulty cat will cause the sensor to register differently triggering the light. Driving with a broken cat can cause serious damage to your engine as it also alters the backpressure

An emission control sys. indicator has arised (Grand vitara 2005)

To know what it exactly is, you need a code scanner hooked to it.
If there is an autozone near you, go there, tell them the engine light is on and you need the code, takes about 30 seconds. They don't charge, where other places do. Without that code you'll be replacing things you don't need to. There is other sensors in the emission system other than the 02 sensors.

Emissions Workshop on display

I had this problem myself and was told it could be one of 3 things

1. ignition coils are on their last legs and would need replacing (there are 4 of them in a VW golf)

2. The throttle housing is knackered and needs replacing as it has caused the motor that powers the accelerator to stop working and

3. The catalytic converter has an excess of carbon stored within it and has caused a defect.

All 3 of these jobs are notoriously expensive. Much to the delight of whoever it is you have gone to see....
