Question about 1993 GMC Sierra K1500

1 Answer

I own a 1993 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 that has a leaking automatic transmission. It is Canadian made (not to sure if it makes a difference) with a 5.7L/350ci V8 with what I believe to be a 700r4 overdrive transmission. From what I've been able to find out it seems that the leak is coming from where the engine meets the transmission, and the leak only occurs at higher speeds (70/80 km/h). After some research I believe it may be the front pump seal, but I am unsure and cannot afford to take it to a transmission shop to have it diagnosed. Please help!

Usually when warm. By the time I can get to an area where I can go at a higher rate of speed the tranny is already warmed up.

Its probably the 4L80E trans. Front seal might be possible. Sounds like torque converter to me. Does it still leak at that speed when the tranny is cold? Or just when its warm?

it would be the 700r4 or early 4l60, same thing. the 4l60E took over when the added electronics and the 4l80e was used in some 2500 models but most all were in 1 ton and above.
you can find more info on the 700r4, 4l60e and 4l80e on helpwrench.com

1993 gmc Sierra driveshaft

Be careful with recovered units. make bloody sure that it has no kinks and not bent - look down the shaft and turn it. If the last one fell out, sounds like the previous joker used one that was too short different models of the same marque can have different lengths.

I have a 1999 GMC Suburban 1500 that started having front end popping/clicking yesterday. Tonight went to back into my parking spot, pulled forward to adjust and it did not move? I can only pull it forward...

Not CV. Red means transmission fluid. On front frame probably means you have a transmission cooler which is a smaller separate radiator that keeps the transmission fluid cool. That's probably where the leak is or the line leading to it. Check your transmission fluid (it has a dipstick) and make sure it shows at the proper level on that dipstick. Add transmission fluid by pouring into same tube dipstick is in. Drive to nearest shop and repair leak.

Tail lights and dash lights not working? Fuse? Which one and where?

Because of the split year and differences between us+canadian models, check fuses #5-#8-#9 in the fuse block behind the access panel lower dash left of the steering column. If the fuse is ok you
may have a bad headlight switch.

I have a 1993 GMC sierra. it starts then after a lil it dies. then wont start. i have changed the fuel filter, fuel pump, and fuel relay. have any suggestions?

Make sure you still have spark. If so when you changed the pump did it have a fat hose from the pump to the metal line in the tank. I have seen the hoses get splits in them and let fuel leak out back into the tank.

2000 gmc sierra 1500 V-8, 4.8liter automatic. oil severely leaking from back of block in between block and flywheel. oil gushes out during acceleration

Between the rear of the block and the transmission is just a couple of things that may be leaking, but make sure thats where it's coming from, and not running from somewhere else...
Your crankshaft rear min seal, they get hardened after yearsm and some can cut a small groove in the end of the crank and leak. They make a "speedi-sleeve" to repair that. The other idea is the camshaft plug, which is like a freeze out plug, but these are not as common.
