Electric power steering works intermitantly

'electric power steering'?

Power steering usually works by oil pumped by a manual pump driven from the serpentine belt. Your sounds like the Power Steering oil needs topping up. Make sure you use the correct ATF fluid as there are different types. It will be written on the cap of the Power Steering reservoir.

Planning to buy a Subaru vehicle

go on line and read reviews about the vehicle . These are written by owners and are quite candid with their opinions. However there is a problem with the boxer motor ( common to all lay flat cylinders) and the rear diff ( weaker than the front diff) on suburu vehicles and you will find most comments concern these items.

I need to know how much oil to refill in my 2001 lincoln ls

most vehicles might be on side of drivers door or has around the front of the radiator or under the hood a sticker that well display oil filter type how much oil what type etc.now look in your owners manual or go on line look up make model of your vehicle oil specifications it should give all the info you need very important the wright oil filter pcv valve all v-8 are 5 quarts.6cyl can be 4 to 5 quarts.if engine is not using oil running normal than do this drain old oil replace pcv valve replace oil filter pour in 4 quarts turn engine on wait about three min turn engine off wait let oil drain back down to oil pan check oil if dip stick reads normal or maybe one third low add one third and save your fifth can.incase you need to add later.every three months oil change is recommended in any vehicle every six months check transmision fluid, every six months check differential fluid especially if you own a 4 wheel drive. that is your front and rear axles.all ways remember oil filter itself well hold about one third to a quart of oil depends on the size of the oil filter.thats why your dip stick my read a little low after checking when your oil change is done.

Ok so my engine is making a ticking sound in the far back what is it?

My guess is that it's a lifter. It's best to talk with a dealership mechanic about the best course of action with your specific vehicle. Usually a engine will last a very long time with a lifter tick. And don't forget to always check for recalls on all the cars you own. Here is a couple I found for your call. In this case it has nothing to do with your ticking problem but for future reference its always a good idea to make sure it's not part of the problem.
Auto Recall Date:MAR 23, 1994 Vehicle Component: POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION Estimated Vehicles Affected:31295 1992 Subaru Legacy Defect Summary:WHEN THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN CONTINUOUSLY UNDER EXTREMELY COLD TEMPERATURES (-22 DEGREES F.) AND HIGH HUMIDITY WEATHER CONDITIONS, THE TRANSMISSION BREATHING (AIR) VENT CAN BE BLOCKED DUE TO MOISTURE FREEZING AT THE OIL LEVEL GAUGE. IF THIS OCCURS, PRESSURE INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION CASE WILL INCREASE AND PUSH OUT THE REAR OIL SEAL, CAUSING TRANSMISSION OIL LEAKAGE. THE LACK OF LUBRICATION CAN BURN THE INTERNAL COMPONENTS OF THE TRANSMISSION, CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO SEIZE AND THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A SUDDEN STOP. Defect Consequence:SUDDEN STOPS WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING CAN CAUSE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS TO BE THROWN AROUND THE VEHICLE AND CAUSE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL WHICH CAN RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. Remedy:DEALERS WILL MODIFY THE OIL GAUGE PIPE AND MODIFY THE OIL LEVEL GAUGE (DIPSTICK) OR REPLACE IT, DEPENDING ON THE TYPE OF DIPSTICK IN THE VEHICLE. Notes:SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. Auto Recall Date:APR 01, 1992 Vehicle Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY Estimated Vehicles Affected:9500 1992 Subaru Legacy Defect Summary:A MISALIGNMENT OF THE REAR SEAT CUSHION LATCHING BRACKET REINFORCEMENT PLATE TO THE FLOOR REQUIRED A MACHINE TAP TO CLEAR THE OPENING FOR A MOUNTING BOLT. THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK MAY HAVE BEEN PUNCTURED WHEN THE TAP WAS USED. Defect Consequence:THE PUNCTURE IN THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK COULD CAUSE FUELTO LEAK, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE FIRE WHEN LEAKS OCCUR NEAR A SOURCE OFIGNITION. Remedy:INSPECT THE FUEL TANKS; REPLACE THEM IF THEY ARE PUNCTURED. Notes:SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC.

Where is the oil pump. And is there an on line manual.

It's inside the oil pan. You have to drop the pan to change the pump, and it's not an easy task. If you're not experienced with jobs like this it's best left to a professional mechanic - with a lift. Sorry, but I could not locate an on-line repair manual for your vehicle.

I need to install a clutch for a 1992 subru legacy 2.2 liters but i dont know how to do it

If you really want to do this yourself , I would suggest that you purchase a chilton manual for your make and model of vehicle. There are alot of things to explain that makes it hard in this type of forum. A chilton manual will show you step by step instructions and the safety precautions you will need to take. It is a pretty easy job if your expirenced at all. you may also want to try the website www.autozone.com , they often have this type of info. I hope this helps

Where is manual transmission oil dipstick on 1996 Subaru Legacy Wagon?

Have yet to see a dip stick for a manuel transmission. They normally have two plugs on the side of trans. One lower and one upper. The lower is for draining, and the upper for adding/checking fluid level. Due to the fact that you must get under car to check, yet still have on level ground to get accurate reading, would sugest you take to your normall sevice provider to have this done.

Do i need change my engine belt in my 2001 subaru b4?

I assume you mean the camshaft timing belt? If it has never been replaced, the answer is "yes." Otherwise follow the service interval outlined in your service manual. Most small automotive engines from Japan recommend this T-belt be changed every 60-80 thousand miles. It should be changed every few years regardless of mileage due to aging. Do you have any service records on this vehicle? This is a good starting reference.

Many Subaru engines are "interference" type engines. This means if the timing belt breaks while the engine is turning, valves can come in contact with pistons and cause damage to these parts and/or the cylinder head. This is much more damaging and costly than replacement of the timing belt at a professional shop.

This is definitely one of those: "If it aint broke, go ahead and fix it anyway" situations. And I am not into fixing the unbroken! Except in this case.

Hope this helps you. Tater Todd

I bought a Subaru Impreza STI 2009 model .. What kind of the oil used in this car and is it Syntihtic oil?

i have an 05 sti. its the same motor as the 09. you definitley want to use a high quality full synthetic oil 5w-30. check the level often because it is normal for this car to burn a little oil do to the turbo. especially if you start making performance mods.
