I have a 2006 Ford escape 2 wd my overdrive indicator light is flashing on panel and it want go in overdrive is there a switch or relay needs to be replaced if so where will it be ?

OK your O/D light will illuminate and stay on, when not in overdrive. The button to switch it on is on the side of the selector.
If as in your case it is flashing, according to the handbook, you need to have your transmission serviced. I'll give you the link the the manual for a 2005 Escape which won't be to dissimilar.

A blinking OD light indicates some type of transmission fault - as I am sure you already know at this point. You need to have It checked for DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes .Where is the over drive light ? instrument cluster or the shift lever ? I remember a wiring problem issue with the wires in the column breaking or chaffing . Go on youtube an search ford O/D flashing

No overdrive?

The overdrive works in serial with the indicator light on the instrument cluster,( OD) light, from here there a positive that feed one section on the control. Fix the short on the dash cluster then your overdrive become to work properly

Instrument panel lighting flashing, not staying on

Should the instrument panel lights come on when you start the vehicle or should they only come on when your lights are switched on? I would suspect they should only work when your driving lights are switched on.

If this is the case the you are going to have to get behind the instrument panel where you will find either
(a) the bulb is loose in its holder or more probably there is more than one bulb. In which case
(b) there is a loose feed wire, possibly at a loose connection and it will just need this pushing together a little tighter.

There can be many other reasons but with any intermittent fault you need to be in a position to be able to reproduce the fault to discover its cause. You may find with a little GENTLE feeling around behind the instrument panel you can find the wiring which makes the lights flash and you can follow it to try to find a loose connector.

If the lights are meant to stay off and they are flashing on when you are driving you have a short somewhere in the system and this requires immediate attention attention, it can lead to a fire as you are driving along.

Best of luck.

Overdrive light is flashing

The flashing light means the overdrive will not work.
You could scan the computer and see if you have any trouble codes.
The codes will direct you as to what to test for the problem.

Overdrive issues

Blinking O/D light is a warning to the driver that they should take it to a qualified repair shop. Also for the technician that DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are stored that will point a qualified tech to a problem for testing , electrical circuit's ,componets etc.... You have no idea of the complexity of these systems . Your best bet ,take it to a qualified repair shop !
Transmission Control Indicator Lamp (TCIL)
The transmission control indicator lamp (TCIL) is located in the instrument panel and is labeled O/D OFF. It is illuminated in conjunction with the TC switch.
The TCIL will flash if the EPC solenoid circuit is shorted or a fault has been detected in a monitored sensor used for transmission operation.

I have a 98 Toyota Corolla - Right Hand side of the instrument panel I have a light that says "O/D OFF". What is it trying to tell me. Thanks - Kay moench

the ' O/D OFF ' light is a indicator that tells you that the ' overdrive ' for the transmission is OFF --- when the light is out, that means that you have selected ' OverDrive ' for your transmission.

My overdrive light when out in the dash area - overdrive is still working but no light

The Explorer's are known for the bulbs blowing in the instrument panel. You would have to take out the whole panel to change the bulb.

I bet when the timing belt was replaced the mechanic has to swap a wire on the back of the instrument cluster in order to turn of the timing belt warning light. I have seen it before were they fit the wire to the wrong spot and this messes with the overdrive and it will not go into overdrive.
