Changed starter but when engaged gear grinding and hits hard gears are OK on both starter and ring gear 1998 Dakota v6 3.9l any suggestions as to what to do. Bolts are tight

To me it sounds like the started is not lined up properly, because if it was lined up right, it wouldn't be doing what it is. Believe me, i have changed a lot of starters in my lifetime.

sounds like you have a stripped starter gear or stripped fly wheel, I'd pry for the stripped starter gear.

2005 pontiac montana won't start

Try tapping on the side of the starter with a pry bar and a hammer. Do not hit too hard though. Hitting too hard will damage the starter. If the engine starts try cleaning the electrical contacts on the starter. If the problem persists replace the starter.

How do i replace cv joint on a ford taurus 2003 i cant get the control arm off please help

The control arm is attached with the ball joint, remove the nut on the ball joint, and hit around the stud of the ball joint, hit it hard, but do not hit the stud of the ball joint,it will jar it loose, then use a large pry bar,and stick in the control arm and pry downwards,It is not easy to get the ball joint stud out of the spindle, but it is the only way.but make sure the stud of the ball joint is free from the control arm then push down on the control arm(pry)

My jeep won't start. It has power. Recently replaced the battery and connections. It is making a clicking noise when I turn the key.

Hi, the clicking noise you hear is the selenoid in the starter motor not engaging the drive to start the engine all you need to do is replace you starter motor and then you should find you will have no problems starting your car.

Another trick you could try just to get it started is give the starter motor a few hits with a hammer hit it quite hard but not hard enough to break it doing this will usually get it started but dont rely on this being a permanent fix as it could leave you stranded.

Also if you have a manual gear box you could get someone to help you push the car whilst its in gear with the clutch to the floor 2nd gear is best for this then once the car is rolling let the clutch up whilst the ignition is on this should then fire up the engine if it dont try the key as this will sometimes get the starter working again for a short while.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

I just bought a 92 jeep cherokee ran beautiful . now it just sits there cant get it to start . battery was dead replaced still wont start . cant tell if its the ignition or the starter.

I'm assuming the starter is not turning the engine...check the small wire on the starter for 12v with key turned to start. If no voltage there, check ignition switch and neutral start switch. (voltage in, voltage out)
