Question about 1991 BMW 7 Series
You will need to be able to scan the car and read the faults, but it sounds
like maybe the shift module on the side of the tranny is not sending the
Park or Neutral message to the DME so the car does not know that it can
start because it needs to see that the car is in park or neutral to be
able to start, but you really need to be able to scan the DME or the EGS
to be able to know.
1. Try the Reset but you may need to disconnected the + and - cables together of few minutes to clear all memory
2. Check for damaged wire on the tranny or leaking
3. Change the tranny fluid and filter
4. Take it to the dealer or a well equipped BMW shop that can pull tranny codes.
