Question about 2001 Cadillac Catera

1 Answer

I just bought a 2001 caddy catera yesterday, I have a 2 year warranty. I'm going to take it back tomorrow to the dealer to have it fixed. I was just curious the little light on the dash is on now the one that looks like a little radiator. The temperature gage is reading normal. What would make that light go on. Thanks

Low coolant level. If the level checks out fine it could be a faulty sensor. The sensor is in the coolant reservoir. Note that the it lights up with initially switching the ignition on. If after the dealer has repaired the fault check that the light still comes on when switching on the ignition. Some less scrupulous dealers will just disconnect it and tell you it is fixed!

Will rims off a Cadillac catera go on a 2003 Malibu

For a start, you should indicate the YEAR of that Cadillac.
Now, I had a similar issue with a Sunfire 2001. I had to change a damaged rim and at the first moment I only had available information a rim for a Cavalier 2001 for sale which LOOKED. siimilar. So, believe it or not, NO ONE, not eeven the parts sales department of an official GM dealer could tell me for sure. They told me that were too old cars, a salomonic answer! So, finally went for sure and bought the original rim for a 2001 Sunfire...
.
You might copy on cardboard the 2003 Malibu rim and compare it with the Cadillac's or buy the original

Dont depend on a tow truck driver for a proper diagnosis. Alternators can work today, and not tomorrow, so dont fault the dealer. But have it checked out, before spending any money. I would start by testing the battery and connections.

I lost my only key for my 2001 cadillac catera, how can I get a new one?

You need to get an aftermarket coded key which can be cut by the serial number of the vehicle.
You need to be a locksmith to get the cut codes or know a locksmith.
Then you have to get the car to the dealer and have the key programmed using the Tech 2 scanner.

You can take the car to the dealer and have them give you a key, programmed and everything but it will cost around $300 for the 1st key.

I bought a 2001 Catera for $1,500.00 because it had no keys.

I used serial number to get key codes and cut the key; doors opened and seller retrieved her personal stuff.
I towed car to dealership and had the key programmed; $130 for 10 minutes work (min 1 hour shop charge).
I then programmed 3 more keys (using a key code reader) instead of letting the dealership rape me.

BTW, they (dealer) also want $350 for a programmed door remote; the stock remote!
Instead, I bought a remote starter unit (Bulldog) with 2 remote fobs for $100 and now my wife can start and find her car easily.

Volvo s60 engine idles erratically

Likely the ETD is wearing. 2001- 2003 ETDs on this model have an extended warranty 10 years / 200K miles on this part by Volvo. There is a safety recall software upgrade that should be done without cost at a Volvo Dealer. This often helps a lot. (Software "fix" around a poor electro-mechcanical design.) Dealer will charge a diagnostic fee but all repairs related to the ETD should be covered parts and labor if that is problem. Check with your dealer about coverage on your specific vehicle. You should have gotten letters about the recall. Get the free safety software upgrade now!!

Scary, just bought my towncar Friday, battery dead, noticed last night when sitting in it, reading manual, waiting for someone, car running the lights would go dim, then brighten back up, thought nothing...

When you get the battery checked out have them test the alternater at the same time. It does sound like it might be starting to go bad and willprobably have to be replaced. If you bought it from a dealer, take the car back there. Unless you were specifically told that there was a problem with the charging system they have an obligation to replace it. Used cars have a 30 day limited warranty to be fit for the road. If you bought the car in a private sale you probably will have to replace it yourself. Its not a hard job ( about an hours labour) and you should get a rebuilt one from an auto parts store instead of going to the dealer. Hope this helps.

ABS and TC light on, speedometer and odometer not working

I have the 2000 Cadillac Catera Sport and I had the same problem. ABS, TC light and no speedometer and odo. I thought it was an electrical problem however I solved the problem by refurbishing the ABS Module. If you bring to the dealer it will cost you $3,000. You can have your ABS module rebuilt try modulemaster.com they do it for about $200 I believe. I got mine fixed because a friend of mine removed them and soldered some loose connectors together. All it cost me was a case of beer! It worked for my car just a suggestion for you guys. My ABS Module was a Bosch 5.3. Hope this helps!
