Hi
No 1, replace the rad cap.
You also need to have the cooling system leak tested, for carbon monoxide ingress, the tester fluid will change color, indicating possible leaking head gasket.
The cooling system needs pressure testing, with a test pump.
This will normally show up a leak.
Check under carpets, for heater matrix leak.

If the heat exchanger for oil heat is at the oil filter it not likely. The coolant will be an external leak. Sounds like a head gasket failure. Due to age(1999) Thermal Shear probably occurred or electrolysis condition in cylinder sleeves

Oil in coolant


Sounds like an intake gasket leak. Oil can leak into the cooling system without coolant leaking into the oil.

The first thing you need to do is check the cooling system coolant level. If it is low or empty, there is not sufficient coolant to cool the engine or to transfer through the heater core to supply the cabin with heat. Fill it up and check for leaks. Once leaks have been repaired, change the thermostat, engine oil and oil filter. If it is full, you may need to change the coolant due to its age, as well as the thermostat, engine oil and oil filter. The reason for the oil change is due to the thermal breakdown of the oil in overheating conditions. Also inspect the water pump to ensure it is being driven by the belt. You may also have air in the cooling system that is causing all your problems. Generally only happens when the cooling system is improperly filled. Make sure you add the correct mixture of coolant and water. Incorrect ratios will cause you similar problems.Coolant protects the cooling system and the water dissipates the heat.

this oil is usually from the trans cooler in the rad that helps keep the trans fluid at operating temperature by the engine coolant absorbing the heat from the trans fluid .the cooler is a steel tubing in the rad tanks that the engine coolant runs around and absorbs the heat.when the cooler rusts through the trans oil seeps into the coolant.if it was motor oil it could be caused by a head gasket were the oil passage is next to the coolant passage in the gasket and it seeps into the coolant passage.however the coolant pressure is alot higher than the oil pressure and the coolant usually enters the crankcase.

My 99 alero v6 is over heating not leaking ight mite be hoses or thermostat . or head gasket but when it overb heats the smoke comes from the top of the engine

I have no heat on idle and no heat while driving. It was no heat on idle got my oil changed and now no heat at all. :(


Check your coolant level! The coolant has to be fairly full in order to heat the heater coil. If your coolant is at proper level and your mixture is good (around 50/50) your thermostat may be stuck open. This should have nothing to do with your latest oil change.

Transmission fluid level need regular top up and there is no external leak.Fluid color looks white.


If no external leak and the transmission fluid colour looks white, the problem belongs to the automatic gearbox oil cooler. The oil cooler has broke mixing the gearbox oil and coolant causing this milkshake. It's a small radiator core type oil / water heat exchanger. It is cracked inside and transmission oil is mixed with engine coolant. Because the transmission oil pressure is greater than engine coolant pressure, the transmission fluid level drops. See also the coolant colour inside recovery coolant reservoir inder bonnet! It could be like this:

Oil in Coolant


Most likely a head gasket leak between coolant channels and oil channels. Need a radiator pressure guage and pump to test holding pressure in coolant system. No oil/water heat exchangers on your car. Usually just a head gasket replacement.

Overheating and change engine oil ... oil was changed one week ?


it seems like the radiator of your car needs attention. check for coolant level in it, when its cold. if les add some coolant and then see if the problem persists.
--than there are chances of chocking in the coolant pipes, may be they not reached to engine..  
--Check the chock,, that it is not turned on. 
--May be sum loosing nut in engine.
