06 PT Cruiser - Stalling - Rough Idle

I have an 06 PT Cruiser Automatic with Turbo with less than 30K miles. When I slow down it idles rough and seems to be misfiring or something similar. It has completely stalled on me on two different occassions, but starts right back up.When it starts idling rough, if I put it in park and press the accelarator it evens out temporarily. I've had it in the shop 3 times, but they cannot seem to get any type of fault codes from it. They have duplicate the problem a couple times, but have not been able to pinpoint the problem. Please Help.

    My problem is virtually identical. It is sporadic, and has been happening for a year now. It's been to the dealership twice, and it's still happening. In addition to the rough idle, it loses power going up a hill, then surges forward. Any help is most appreciated!

    Thanks so much for posting. Mine isn't a turbo, though. Just plain old Touring Edition. Do you think that might be my problem, too? They recently replaced the O2 sensor, but the same problem happened again, so I took it back in. It's back in the shop now for a week and it's been operating perfectly. Any thoughts on whether the catalytic converter might be the problem?

    Thanks!

    Have you replaced the battery or for any reason had the battery disconected recently?

WE WERE ABOUT TO PULL THE HEAD ON ONE WHEN WE FOUND THE GASKET SUCKED IN. PART IS CHEAP AND REPAIR NOT TERRIBLE .HAVE YOUR TECH SPRAY CLEANER AROUND SEAM BETWEEN INTAKE AND PLENUM ENGINE SHOULD DIE DOWN WHEN YOU HIT THE LEAK

I have a 2006 PT Cruiser that had the same issue when I was driving the gauges & dash panel lights would flicker for a few seconds and then everything would go back to normal. This could happen once or multiple times in one day. We discovered a wire issue with the steering wheel when you would tilt it. There is a metal plate and if the wires hit it this causes the dash/gauge panel flicker issue. My husband pulled the steering panel apart & taped them with electrical tape. Since then we have had no more issues.

2004 pt cruiser turbo idling and running roughly

c99fd777-e303-4157-9a0b-18509a067e72.gif you would need to do a running test. but if its worse with new injector. then it can be the dispack fault. it feeds the spark plugs. have seen some were the unit has leaked. and made like a cement on the shaft that is the inside of it come out and dropped down the shaft. also the rubber will go white like water marks. check them to make sure they are the same if it does look like what ive said change it. they are not dear to replace.

Rough idle

Sounds like a automatic choke sticking....Take the air duct loose from carb..While accelerating engine spray bottle throttle spray in.....as the car tries to die...stop spraying...Repeat 3 or 4 times.....It will clean your injectors. Runs alot better...Remember....bottle throttle spray...not carborator spray

2008 pt cruiser problems. At idle with Air Cond on get frequent RPM drop. 50-100 RPMs. Withour Air Condition on car idles fine (no drop) Also can hear a single click sound when drop occures.

The click sound would be the air conditioner compressor engaging, the engine will slow down do to the additional load. If it idles rough you probably need to think about cleaning the throttle body.

My 2003 PT cruiser's engine light came on, then the car started running extremely rough. It became so bad, I had to pull over. Sitting idle, it seems to idle a little rough, but when I gas it gas, it would...

Find your air mass flow sensor in the stiff collar of the air ducting immediately after the air filter. Have the engine running and disconnect the plug to the MAF. If this makes the car run evenly again you need to replace the broken MAF. The misfire on plug 4 I think is a downstream event of the MAF not sending the right info to the ECU and consequently not providing the right fuel / air mix to the engine

I blew the turbo on my 2005 pt cruiser limited ed. I replaced the entire turbo,and added new sparks...(only has 52k miles) Since then my car does not get over 65mph without feeling like its stalling...

What kind of spark plugs did you use??? Here is a list of plugs that you can use on your Turbo engine.

Champion
* Copper - stock # 440 - RE14MCC5 (OEM)
* Copper - stock # 470 - RE14MCC5 (supercedes/replaces # 440, but some catalogs same part #)
* Copper - RE16MC (supercedes/replaces RE14MCC5 and new Chrysler recommended gap is .040)

NGK
* Copper - LZTR4A-11 (supercedes/replaces RE14MCC5 and new * Chrysler recommended gap is .040)
* Copper - stock # 4306 - LZTR5A-13 (one range colder)

If you use the platinum spark plugs used on the Non-turbo engine, they will start to glow and cause misfires and can cause engine damage to saver detonations throughout the RPM cycle.

As for the over heating, you could have a blown head gasket from a severer detonation if you notice coolant and oil mixing in your engine and coolant tank. The less cause for over heating wold be a bad thermostat or a faulty radiator cooling fan, cooling fan relay or cooling fuse which is located in the engine compartment fuse box by the battery.

Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.
