Timing is controlled by the computer. there is a small rod behind the flat cap distributor that wears out easy on these models it controls the timing. it could be the timing chain or belt.

What is the process in timing up a 1995 454 just replaced the distributor and it running ruff

dose it have a flat distributor cap wit the wires coming off the side or are they strait off the top. if they are off the side you will need a scan tool that will give you the camshaft retard witch need to be set to 0deg +/- 3 deg, if they r off the top there should be single wire either on the wiring harness on the passenger side of the fire wall, or under the dash below the glove box, you need to disconnect it with the key off then start the truck and set the timing with a timing light the spec is 0deg but I have run them up to 10deg

Sparks jumping from spark plug wires in 1995 chevy g20 van the wires are new and so are the plugs cap and rotor and coil

replace the leads with a heavier grade of lead insulation Use spacer bars to seperate the leads as the current will jump to the lead of lower resistance ( ie piston not in compression mode). Spark jumping will cause problems not the least being a blown motor through firing at the wrong time

I got a 1995 GMC Saburban it cranks over but wont start.. Was checking timeing an was setting #1 at TDC when i noiticed the disturbutor cap turning with the motor

Obviously the cap shouldn't be turning the only way I see this happening is if the shaft locked up inside the distributor at which poin you are going to need a distributor.

After replacing distributor, cap, and rotor on 1995 chevy caprice classic (5.7ltr) engine turns over but won't catch. Possible solution?

if it was running fine before you changed the cap and rotor just make sure you put the spark plug wires back in the same spot you might have got them mixed up

Engine turns over but won't start / 1995 F-150

Sounds alot like the ignition sensor. In my old Chevys it was under the dist cap, mounted on the dist itself. Mine was flat, slightly curved rectangle shape, with two flat prongs coming out both sides. If it would get an internal break in it, you cant see it. I would have the same problem as you, part was only about $12. And comes out with unscrewing two screws.
Might want to give it a shot.

Chevy 454 back fire

Ignition timing is set by the computer as long as the distributor pickup point is within reason.

It could be running too lean. One of the TBI injectors may be sticking or not working (wiring or computer problem), or fuel pressure could be low.
