Here is a good place to compare prices on the coil for your Hondawhats a pickup coil, and where can I get one to - image-3568661-10475265
The ignition coil serves as a high voltage transformer. It steps up the ignition system's primary voltage from 12 volts up to thousands of volts

I have a ford ranger 1986 ive replaced plugs, wires, coil, cap, rotor button and still i have a orange spark could it be the pickup coil

Color of spark is a kinda age-old test, but it doesnt necessarily mean anything. Some cars you will usually see orange during a cranking spark test because the resistance of the system and the coil windings reduces voltage below the "blue" spark level until voltage gets over 14v, which doesnt happen until the engine is running.

If the car runs at idle and rev, it is unlikely its the pickup coil. The pickup is the RPM sensor, pretty much it either works OK or works terribly/not at all (though sometimes they are funny, its rare). If it runs fine for awhile, then after 30 minutes it starts to cut out or stall, and when it cools it runs again, THAT is pickup coil type of failure, but not yellow spark. Pickup doesnt make spark or affect its quality in any way. It simply says WHEN to make spark. After it signals WHEN, the module and coil and source voltage determine how much is made.

If you still think you have low spark issues, id test it with a test plug. Its an adjustable or fixed gap spark plug you can buy at a parts house. You need minimum 25kv consistent spark from the coil.(30 is better). What that means is you hook a work from the cap to the spark tester, and with the engine running it will fire regular sparks and not skip any. If it does...spark is not your problem. Period. If it doesnt, then you start checking wires, resistance, voltage, etc.

No spark at coil or distributor

I would buy a book with the procedure to troubleshoot the ignition system. The problem could be the pickup coil in the bottom of the distributor among other things. The module uses the pickup coil to know when to fire the plugs. The computer only controls when the cylinders fire.

Is it possible to buy a pick up coil for a 1997 Chrysler sebring used or is it cheaper to buy an entire motor?

A pickup coil is usually in the distributor.
The V6 engine uses a distributor but no parts are available for it separately. The 4 cyl engine only uses a coil.
What part are you talking about ?

Got a 85 toyota pickup..will not start..replaced coil, brain box, and all fuses...still no fire from the coil?

Not sue what you mean by brain box. You may need to replace the ICM the Ignition Control Module that sits right below the coil. Mine cost almost $300 locally, but found them online for less then $100. When mine went out in my 1985 Toyota pickup I was doing about 45 MPH and it was just like someone turn the key off., dead, no spark nothing. I ran the troublesooting steps in my repair manual and found it was dead.

Ran diagnostics test today. said code 13 which i was told has to do with irregular signals in distributer. truck seems to be runnin fine. any ideas?

the distributor has one or more internal pickup coils that signal the car's computer. Early versions had just one coil but later versions had three coils--two for spark timing and one for RPM. If one of the spark timing coils went bad, the car would still run fine on the other "backup" coil. If your distributor has just one coil, it is possible that this coil has started to show intermittent failures. You haven't noticed it yet but the computer has been keeping track. After a certain number it sets a code 13. Same for the multiple coil type only this time, one of the coils could be completely dead. The coils can be checked individually with an ohm meter to see if they have the proper resistance (125-275 ohms). You can do this by disconnecting the distributor wire bundle connector and probing the leads. I don't have a schematic for this but a Haynes manual will have it or maybe you can find it online.

1983 town car 289 sometimes it starts sometimes not no ignition. replaced ignition module ,throtel position sensor coil dist.cap, and rotor. Thanks

THERE IS A PICKUP COIL IN THE DISTRIBUTOR, IF YOU HAVEN'T CHECKED THAT, IT IS PROBABLY EASIER TO CHANGE THE DISTRIBUTOR THAN TRYING TO CHANGE JUST THE PICKUP COIL. MAKE SURE THE PICKUP COIL COMES IN THE NEW DISTRIBUTOR BEFORE YOU BUY. THE PICKUP COIL OFTEN CAUSES THE PROBLEM YOU ARE HAVING WITH YOUR CAR

IM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHATS WRONG.I WAS DRIVING AND MY 89 TOYOTA PICKUP 3.0 4X4 QUIT RUNNING.WE FIGURED OUT FIRE WASNT GETTING TO THE PLUGS.WE INSTALLED CAP,ROTOR BUTTON,WIRES,DISTRIBUTER,AND IGNITION...

will try to help.try checking the ignitor assesmbly, with out it your truck will not get fire or low fire,so low you won't catch it. the ignitor gives it an extra boost of fire to ignite the gas in the cylinders. try that, but if it checks bad, used ignitors must match numbers with old onr. try used auto parts online. hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com

94 toyota camery 4 cyl wont start Ichecked the fuel injectors there ok checked fuel pump works fine replace distributor cap and the ignitor but I dont get a spark at the sparkplugs.henrys

check all efi and ign fuses first...then check pickup coil and ignition coil in distributor w/ ohm meter...since you already replace the ignitor, then mostly likely it's the pickup coil or ignition coil...buy the whole
