This is a common problem, if you know anything about mechanics, you could take it out and bang on it, or wiggle the steering wheel hard while simultaneously trying to turn the key, also make sure the gear is fully in park, if you park and kill the engine and take the key out then let the steering wheel lock, while the front end is in a bind, like its turned, or parked on a hill, then you might need to turn the wheel hard to get it to turn over

2005 chevy malibu classic.... theft warning light coming on and not allowing car to start..... best solution?

Let the car sit undisturbed for 10 - 15 minutes, then try to start it. Check the owners manual if you have it. Sometimes, on various cars letting them sit awhile will allow the system to reset itself. On others sometimes rapidly turning the key from off to on, without turning to start 3 to 8 times within 10 seconds and then on the last turn to the on position leave it there until the horn chirps, at that point turn the key directly to start, or turn off first and turn to start. If all this fails, a GM dealer can reset the system.

My 2005 chevy malibu classic wont start the battery is good but it wont kick over. and also the igntion switch is bad it locks up how do i test the problem for myself it is to expensive to take it to the...

This could be a bad starter. Does it make a clicking sound when you turn the key? Does the engine sound like it wants to start but just wont? If the ignition switch is bad it could be the solution to your entire problem and it is not too hard to replace yourself. Please post with these answers. Thank you!

My 2005 chevy malibu classic will not start i have everything checked out also my theft system light is on constantly

all gm vehicles from 97-2005 have a theft system called the passlock system. (how to deactivate system on chevy malibu) turn key on engine off, let it stay on for at least 10 minutes, then turn ignition off, take out key from ignition switch. after 1 minute start the car. you can also go to tubesound.com to disable system for good. --tubesound.com/passlocksystem. ( just type in the problem when page comes up ). have a good day!! vehicle will not start with system blinking. it thinks its being stolen.

Problems starting

I own a 1998 Chevy Malibu personally, change the ignition switch I had the identical issue, the switch eventually stopped turning completely, my vehicle had to be towed!! Save yourself a headache, I got one from a junkyard for 2.00, but it had to be programmed for the vehicle, I would take it to a trusted shop or dealer.

2005 Chevy Impala key seats in ignition but will not turn

With the key in the ignition try turning the steering wheel side to side, it may require a bit of force in either direction to get the wheel freed up and allow the key to turn. This happens when you don't allow the steering wheel to come to a resting spot before removing the key from the ignition.
