Question about 2003 Lexus Gs 300

I want to know the recommendations for an oil change on my vechile? I've been hearing rumors that the "3.000" threshold for oil changes will be no more due to sufficient modern engines and amount of good oil going to waste.

and do you have resoucres so I can back that statement up lol? So you are saying I can get an oil change, wait for another 10,000 miles for another oil change to take place?

That's sounds pretty bad to be honest. I would be afraid if my cars runs crappy if I dont do it within the 3,000 mark. Do u really think it would be safe to wait around the 10,000 mark for an oil change?

You can go 5,000 miles with no problem in most cases, 3,000 is worst case driving which means stop and go and or really hot climates, use a high quality oil like Castrol or Valvoline and you will have no excessive engine wear issues, if u do fall into the severe driving category such as hot climates or heavy traffic (stop and go driving) stick with 3,000 miles, this opinion comes from 45 years of automotive repair experience and experience's with my own extensive fleet of cars.

this recommendation is based on what i know about modern oils and engine wear issues, 45 years of automotive repair backs me up and numerous talks to engineers in Detroit, i am a Master tech in all phases of repair and maintenance is one phase i know well, what is this 10,000 miles u mention? that is to long unless u use synthetic oil, it is very expensive, my recommendations were based on conventional oil.

    1. The manufacturer issue for oil change interval: 10.000 miles or 12 months.

    2. Wait for another 10,000 miles or 12 months, for another oil change to take place.

Without any problem it's safe to wait 10,000 miles for an oil change, if you will use a good quality engine oil & filter. Ask further on and you will be surprised how many people do this 10,000 miles engine oil & filter change.

Hello: At the time your owners manual was printed the oil change recommendation was 7500 miles, BUT that was under ideal driving conditions. (NOBODY drives a car under those conditions) If tour car has a four cylinder engine I would recommend between 3,000 to 4,000 miles. I have a 2001 Saturn with 202000 miles, bought new, use Castrol 10W30 Castrol oil have changed it every 3000 miles my self and have records to prove it. The engine still does not use or leak any oil.

I have a 2006 Mazda Tribute. Can you tell me what the recommended time is between lube and oil changes. Is it 3000 miles or 5000. Thanks

It used to be every 3 months or 3,000 miles but some manufacturers are suggesting that 5,000 miles is ok. My view is that it does not hurt the motor having more oil changes. I continue to have them done every 3,000 miles myself even if my oil life indicator has not come on. Clean oil is very important to have a engine last for many miles. There are some full synthetic oils that can go for 5,000 or 7,000 miles beteween oil changes but cost alot more than the standard oil.

any parts store can help with information.

I will give you step by step too.

1. raise hood and remove oil cap
2. chock wheels so car will not roll backward over you.
3. place drain pan under oil pan and remove plug from bottom of oil pan.
4. after oil has drained out slie pan under oil filter and remove oil filter.
5. dip finger in quart of oil and rub oil on ruber gasket on new oil filter.
6. fill new oil filter with oil if it is not sideways when installed.
7. install new oil filter and replace oil pan drain plug.
8. install recommended amount of oil for your vehicle, usually 5-6 quarts.
9. remove dipstick, whipe clean, re-install dipstick, remove again and make sure sufficient oil is in pan.
10. note mileage so you can do it again 3,000 to 5,000 miles.

No problem, just question on oil change,

I would recommend that you change your oil every 3,000 mile or 3 months which ever come first. This just help you keep a cleaner engine and keeps oil at Peak performance and provide excellent protection against sludge which developes with lack of oil change. Once a year seems too long for an oil change. However between oil changes you can add oil if needed. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA

Oil change

20w-50 is an excellent choice. Every 2,500 to 3,000 miles is recommended for oil change intervals.
