Cost should be somewhere in the region of $400. The 2000 model has a cambelt and is not an interference engine

When replacing timing belt in 2000 toyota avalon should water pumped be replaced also..? no issues on that front yet...

It is a precautionary act, water pump and tensioner should be replaced for peace of mind. The xost of replacing a water pump will be higher if it has to be changed at another time, a new belt
might have to be fitted too. Best to get it all done in one go is the current wisdom

Is there a timing belt or chain.

The 2000 Toyota Corolla will have a timing chain. Earlier models have the Belt. The chain is pretty much maintenance free. When it is time to replace it you will usually start to hear a rattle where the chain is losing tension and is vibrating against the chain guide.

Does my 2007 avalon touring edition (3.5L) have a timing belt or chain?

this car is not equipped with a timing belt, it utilizes a timing chain with an automatic hydraulic tensioner. no replacement interval! keep up on your oil changes and the chain should have a very long life!

Timing Belt

Should be replaced due to age. Just remember a new car can break down any time as well.
