Re: can not shift gears
You have a bad shifter. it's locked.
you will have to take it to a specialized shop, " DO NOT TAKE IT TO A REGULAR SHOP " unless you want to pay three times more...they have to have the required tools and software to do it.
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Mechanic (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

The problem with mine was the gear shifter lock solenoid was broke. Inside the cup holder (the one closest to seats) is a slide door about a !/2" wide by 2" long. slide that up and inside you will see a white disc. With a tool that can reach it, pull it towards the passenger seat and it will allow you to push the gear shifter button in to shift. This is a temporary fix and will have to be repeated each time you want to put car in gear.
You need to have someone or two to push the car to get the pressure
off. If you are facing downhill have them push the front end, if uphill
push the back. Release parking brake first because that will keep it
from moving. After pushing a few inches you should be released and can
shift but be carefull you don't run anyone over (go for neutral with
foot on brake) Hope this helps.
there is a u shaped clip that holds handle on stem, pull that and then pull handle off and then push down on the white stick that is in center of shifter and see if it can move out of park then, also make sure your foot is on brake ! if that that does'nt work then there is a little solenoid down by shifter that has to move when you put foot on brake so's that it will let you shift it (safety device) it may be bad or bad connection.
if you look on the center council where the shift lever is you will see a small plastic button on the drivers. Remove the button. Insert a small screwdriver into the hole and push down. You will then be able to move the shift lever into nuetral and push the car.
cord??dont you mean a cable ,this is the inhibitor so you cant put in gear without brake on .as button pushes in it pulls the cable up which in conjuction with brake releases the gearchange.it is possible to remove the lot just like the cars of yester year
