If a diesel stalls when decelerating, it may indicate a lubrication problem in the injector pump. The first thing that should be checked is the idle speed. If low, it could prevent the pump governor from recovering quickly enough during deceleration to prevent the engine from stalling.

Water in the fuel can also cause stalling by making the metering valve or plungers inside the pump stick. Use of a lubricating additive may help cure this condition. If an additive doesn't help, the pump may have to be cleaned or replaced.

Sound like is that something in the fuel has been deposited in the injectors reducing their capacity and preventing full fuelling for cold running. I would try some injector cleaner and a good blast using some revs, especially if the car has been run on cheap fuel and/or driven mainly in town and slowly.

Hope helps.

Please remember that this or that plate means nothing to some of us unless were in the UK ,Now firstly i think a new fuel filter is in order ,also only use the conventional diesel and not bio diesel as it can and does cause problems ,also in the fuel tank is a gauze filter on the bottom of the pick up pipe ,just as a test blow the fuel line backwards with a air line but make sure fuel cap is loose when you do this .Now if i remember rightly these vehicles use a toyota engine as chrysler ?? diesel now thats sacrildege to an american with their dollar a gallon for petrol .Now try it with the fuel filters changed and if the problem persists then its a dealer only job as its common rail computer controlled fuel injection and as this vehicle is assembled in europe for the europeon market and not an american import then its using encrypted software yes it has a chrysler badge but its built on the same assembly line as the ford galexy seat sharan and the VW ,and something else that as iam tired i cant think of it ,also of course it could be in limp mode but only a dealer can read the faults on a europeon model vehicle and that goes for nearly all makes and models in europe unless its a morris minor or a humber hawk from the 50s .

Hi! Looks like a spark plug problem. Please replace spark plugs for it may not be burning enough fuel causing it to stall. It floods fuel that's why a new set of spark plugs will be helpful for better fuel burning. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

I overlooked that it's a diesel. Have you tried having it calibrated? This can help.

My Volvo c30 cuts out if I accelerate to much in gear before changing it is a diesel

there is probably an over rev stopper in the system that is intended to stop engine destruction
It is poor driving practice to put the engine in this situation as it stresses the engine unnecessarily and really achieves nothing
diesel engine have a set torque range and under or over that range produces nothing in the terms of power and gear changing should be best kept to that range
If the transmission will not change gears at around 2500 rpms then have the fault codes read as there may be a problem electronically.

Engine sputters accelerating

no year? no engine? GC ,, . (crd 56?)

there are many engines, used, so we cant guess that.... and is totally Germain.
here ill tick off a few, for low power, and there are many simple tests.
  1. a tuneup, do the 60,000 mile listed tuneup now. Bam, runs.
  2. low compression on any cylinder. or all.
  3. bad spark (see tuneup)
  4. if 1996 and newer, scan it , in USA scan the ECU/PCM.
  5. bad fueling? too little or too much.

this is engine power, we need the year, the cylinder count and displacement. of said engine.
here is a shop manual.. 93-2004 years

My 2007 diesel auto Santa Fe Elite has an issue where it stalls or completely stops when it is warm (usually after driving for around an hour). It also loses power going up hills and jumps out of cruise...

hello I am having a issue with my santa fe diesel and currently suspecting that the oil that the service center is using is a generic oil used in both diesel and petrol engines. I am suspecting that the oil is too thin and causing compression in the cylinder issues and can be seen under load on low revs and very little responsiveness from the accelerator and at times the engines misses and has at one point stalled. You may also hear that the engine rattles on acceleration. I am going to experiment in putting in an oil particularly for diesels only and see if that makes a difference. I topped up 500ml before the last service on a 5w-40 diesiel synthetic oil and that seemed to make a big difference. I am guess 5w-30 will be better choice but did not have that sitting around at the time.
Be interested if anyone else experiments with an oil change and it works.

I have just bought a 2007 grand voyager 2.8crd. in p or n it wont rev over 2500rpm is this normal? also when you try there is a whistling sound? turbo? is there a turbo. also the cabin heater light keeps...

The vehicle DOES have a rev limiter when in P or N. The whistle is the governor allowing air into the intake to detune the engine to linit the revs. The cabin heater light is for the AUX CABIN HEATER. It is diesel powered and will light when operating to maintain the set cabin temp. It has its own exhaust that comes out under the side of the vehicle. It can even run for a few minutes after the vehicle is turned off. That is normal.

I have a 1996 Plym. Grand Voyager, hesitation & stalling.

If it works well at speed and acts up when slowing or stopped it doesn't sound like fuel filter or pump. You can try running injector cleaner through the engine to clean the carborator injectors or fuel injectors if you have those. Look at replacing the plugs and wires on the motor.

Grand voyager problems

I ran into this problem this past winter and after going threw everything I finally solved this problem by taking off the fast idle servo and cleaning behind it with solvant If it gunks up in their it cannot function properly causing it to stall when idiling or coming to a stop. Try this simple solution it will more than likely work for you and keep it from stalling.
