Check your battery terminals sounds like one is loose or dirty... they need to be cleaned and tight. Make sure your in park , most cars will not rotate at all when in gear. Check your fuses panel for a blown fuse and lastly check to see if the wire on the starter is tight. If it's an older Ford's there is a cylinode switch beside the battery that should click everyte you try and start the car... it is a big magnetic switch basically. If no click then you could grab a booster cable ( put the car in park). Place the car key in run position attach one booster cable on the right side of the cylinode and tap the other end of the same colour on the opposite side... the starter will start... there will be some sparks when you touch and when you release but that is ok...just hold the one end in your hand against the other side until you rig starts and then remove them. But don't rotate the starter longer then 15 seconds cause you don't want to burn it out.
Ronald,
When you replaced the starter, I assume you did disconnect the battery. Did you clean the posts before putting your battery cable back on? I replaced my battery a couple of months ago and did not clean them and my van ran fine for several days and then one day would not start. Cleaned the posts and cable ends and everything worked fine. Just a thought. Hope this helps!
your anti theft device is activated, you need to lock and unlock your doors a couple times with the key fob,not the key,and then you need to put the key in the ignition and start it,if you dont have your key fob, call your car dealer to get a new one, they are programmed for each car only, you cannot bypass it.
Fixed Problem (it was my van) no power to ignition wire at starter. Replaced Ignition lock cylinder. just worn down. (Delivery van 50-60 starts a day). 160k miles.
If the engine turns over and the starter works you will need to determine if the engine is getting spark and fuel. Let's concentrate on the starting system first. There are three major components to your starting system. The battery, the starter solenoid, and the starter. There are a couple of sub systems too that can prevent your starter from operating such as the nuetral switch.May sure the car is firmly in nuetral for testing. If the engine doesn't turn over then you may have a problem with the starter solenoid or the starter itself. You can jump power directly to the starter from the battery by connecting a jumper lead to the positive side of the battery to the starter terminal on the starter. If the starter turns over then your solenoid is probably bad. If the starter will not turn you will need to remove it and have it tested. (Most parts stores will do this for free) NAPA Schucks, O'Rilies CarQuest ect.
I'm guessing you checked the fuses already, so if you have spark at the plugs, look for a vacuum leak. If you still suspect the fuel pump, do a fuel pressure test.
i had a similar problem and called the dealer during lunch hour. i talked to a mechanic, the distributor in these vehicles is plastic, and is prone to cracking.not just the cap but the body also, I have been taking the cap off and wiping the moisture out of the cap. or replacing the cap but the problem is I need a new distributor. just a cheep way to get rolling is cleaning the inside of the cap, especially when it is very damp or the outside temp changes alot during the day. good luck.
funny...you have just told me what is wrong with it!!! check power in, power out at the ignition switch...likely it has failed. switch is on the top of the steering column under the dash and is sometimes easier to reach if you disconnect the column from the dash and permit the sterering wheel to rest on the seat.
