Question about 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

1 Answer

I have a chevy equinox 2005 and recently had the fuel pump assembly replaced for a cool $ 1100; after driving out of America's Service Station, my fuel gauge was reading empty, although I had about 3 gallons of gas. I called them back and they said that I had a defective fuel gauge sensor, which was part of the fuel pump assembly and to return it so that they could replace it. Upon returning it, they call me and say that it was the "secondary" sensor that had gone bad. I asked them if the primary sensor is OK, then why is the fuel gauge still reading empty. They said that the secondary must be working for the primary to be working, then the gauge would be OK. They charged me another $ 500 to replace the secondary fuel gauge sensor. Does this scenario make sense and does the $ 500 seem reasonable for materials and labor. They said they had to drop the gas tank to get to the sensor, etc. Any possibility that there is any type of service bulletin or recall for this situation. Eric Schrader, Canton, Ga.

A $1600 repair bil on a $10000 car is enough to make anyone faint. The $500 does seem a bit steep for something they should have picked up on the first time they had the vehicle.
There have been problems noted with the fuel sender due to sulpher corrosion necessitating replacement of the unit.

Try following the fuel lines from the pump and look for a squashed steel line that is blocking the fuel flow. IT is possible the some wires were damaged from the debris.

What all do i need to change when doing a tune up for a chevy 2005 equniox

Just basically spark plugs and an air filter. The plugs don't need replacement until 100,000 miles. The fuel filter is located inside the fuel pump assembly in the gas tank and is not serviceable. It doesn't require a PCV valve and there are no adjustments available for the throttle body, idle or timing.

Firstly be careful where you take the car to in the UK, I know of many garages that will try and rip you off with an american car so do question everything they say. there is no need to change the fueal pump it should be good for 100k miles.

The filter is inside the tank but not inside the fuel pump.

Hope that helps

I have a 2005 Chevy Equonox

you might have to dismantle the key ignition assembly on your steering column. Have you tried getting some channel locks or some pliers to swiftly yank out the key? Is the key bent inside the ignition? If so, you have a problem on your hands and you'll have to remove the assembly and most replace it.
