If you had your car sitting for over a year is probable that your battery went bad and is not taking the charge, you need to replace it.

No, but it needs either a good battery or a good alternator. It sounds like your alternator is barely working and not able to produce voltage at idle. Perhaps the battery would be OK with a new alternator in the car.

97 buick century was running after jump started, when put in reverse it died and wont start when jump start, no chimes or lights come on at all

Dangerous practice to try & jump a near dead battery

Always try charging a battery, that is only a couple years
old & not run down more than two or three times

If the battery is dead & reads less than 12 volts, have a parts
store test it or just replace it.

Jumping a cars battery is not a fix for anything,so I fail to
see how your lost & have not addressed the battery issue,
so you can continue on with other testing,if needed

Van battery is always dead in morning

The car is using power overnight, so that the battery has drained by morning. Make sure every light is turned off when you leave it.

It wont crank like not getting power

ok sounds like you have a dead battery
1) if turns but slowly:

posible causes:
1.1) old dead batery/
or underchaged battery >check altenator in this case

did you leave your headlights turnt on and drained the battery of its charge?if so get a jump start and then run the car for 30-45 mins to rechagre the battery

if you have at your disposal anothere batery that you know has a good charge
try starting your car with that batery(not using jumper cables) hook it up!
if the slugish turn over is still there

1.2) check your wire conections for corision this means completly disconecting 1 lead at a time (only on one end of that lead)and cleaning them with a wire brush or some sand paper.
(on the battery and the starter also the ground strap conection to the frame.)

2) WONT TURN OVER AT ALL:
posible causes:
2.0) dead battery >try charging it>get a jump start
2.1) blown turnkey igntion fuse
2.2) blow fuse for main har nes wires
2.3) bad starter
2.4) corosion on wire conection (most often the batery terminals)
2.5) starter replaced and hooked up incorectly.

2.6) alram system preventing the turnkey igntion system from getting power

Vehicle was parked and not started for 2 months.

Hi, there will be diodes in the generator that are letting the power from the battery drain away through the parked times when not in use. to prove it charge the battery- then disconnect the negative terminal on the battery, connect 24 hours later and see if the battery as kept it charge, if so - fit new alternator, good luck.

alternator's go bad - even some new ones are no good - prolly a rebuilt one gone bad - test it -- charge the battery - - then drive it in the day time to the local advance or auto zone - they will test ur charging system - also - take down the vin number and ask the local dealer if there have been any recalls or service bulletins - on ur car -

F150 supercrew cab won't start,,battery good

If you're using your truck to jump start another dead battery in a different car..your truck should be runing when you do that.....

If you leave your truck turned off and are jump starting another car/truck that way..you are drawing your CCA (cold cranking amps) way down, and really shortening the life of your batery..you'll be needing to get jump started yourslf pretty soon.
