I would start with the idle air control valve. First remove the air ducting between the air filter box and the throttle. This will give you some room. You will need a cloth and some WD40 lubricant spray or carb choke cleaner spray. Clean the opening of the throttle and the outside of throttle plate until it is like new. Using your fingers press against the top of the throttle plate and rotate fully open. Continue to clean the throttle opening behind the plate as far as possible. Now remove the electrical connection and unscrew the two Philips screws securing the IAC valve to the side of the throttle body. Clean everything thoroughly; access ports and valve seat etc. Reassemble and the fault should be resolved.

How can u tell if a neutral saftey switch is bad

trouble starting ? vehicle should only start in park or neutral, not when in gear, including reverse ! if yours starts in gear, your switch is bad !

Car only starts in reverse and only drives in neutral

Sounds like a cable to the transmission is not adjusted up right, and/or the neutral safety switch is not adjusted right, if this applies to your Toyota Corolla.

1990 mustang v8 5.0automatic starts in neutral but put in park, reverse,or gear 1 kills motor

Change the neutral safety switch located on the transmission. It may just be loose. If it's loose, retighten after adjusting. Hope this helps you. Good luck!

When my toyota is idling in gear there is a ratle that sounds like its coming from the engine. In park and neutral it seems to go away.

most likely it is an exhaust heat shield. block the wheels, set the parking brake and put it in gear so it makes the noise. now get out and go down the exhaust system and press against each shield to see if the noise goes away. when you find the culpret rip it off and you are done.

I have Toyota Corolla Expert 03 Model, it Revs to high in Park and Neutral, would you have any idea on why it does this. Thanks, Bob.

One possibility is a vaccum leak. After that, it would almost have to be a IACV or TPS. Fastest way to tell if it is a vaccum leak is start the car with the hood opened, let it run for a second then shut it off. If you can hear a sucking or hissing sound, then it is a vaccum leak. Check Engine light might also be on with a code that says "Bank 1 too lean"

Toyota gli 1.6

hi my name thomas

your car has a broken or faulty neutral switch.
the neutral switch is located under you gear desplay next to the gear shift (t-bar).
the job of the neautral switch is to prevent the car from starting in a drive or a revearse gear which would allow the car to move.
it is a saftey precaution for the driver

hope i could help fix the problem and explain why it is a problem
