This light has nothing to do with brake fluid level, if that gets low it will turn on the "BRAKE" light in the cluster(same one that comes on when the parking brake is on).
This light is part of the Autocheck system, and it means your brake pads have worn through the sensors; replace them immediately and you may need to have the rotors machined or replaced if they are too thin. Make sure to get pads with sensors, or that light will stay on even after the pads are replaced. You would be surprised at how many pads don't come with the built-in pad wear sensor, so make sure to ask specifically for them.

The brakes. It goes off because your brake fluid has gone below the minimum level, and sets the sensor off. Before you go adding brake fluid, what it REALLY means is that your brake pads are so worn down that the brake pistons in your calipers are extended all the way in order to make contact with the rotors. Therefore, the amount of fluid in your reservoir is low. Replace your brake pads, and see if you also need your rotors shaved/replaced because you let them go so far. Personal note: On older cars, the brake fluid is supposed to be replaced every 3 years. See if it needs a flush. If you can, drain out all the old DOT 3 brake fluid and replace it with synthetic DOT 3 or the newer DOT 4.

Warning light in 2003 audi a4 that is a circle with parenthesis around it (O). what does this mean?

If it's an orange circle with broken parentheses on each side it would be your brake pad wear warning light. You should have your brake pads inspected.

I have a '98 A6 and the light is a circle with a dashed line around the sides. In case my description is not good, there are three curved dashes on each side of it.

This is telling you that the brake linings are worn and should be inspected before they become a safety issue. Let me know if you need instructions to repair this yourself.

A WARNING LIGHT HAS COME ON CIRCULAR WITH BROKEN LINES BUT I CANT SEE WHAT IT SAYS IN MIDDLE

Anything that looks more or less like this: (0)
has something to do with the brakes.
Broken lines both sides of the circle(instead of the brackets). Worn pads
If there is writing in the middle it can be
  • ! Brake system fault
  • ABS
  • P Parking brake
With a picture of a bulb in the circle that has an X over it. Faulty brake lights.

Hi we have no manuel with the car and there is a light coming up which is a circle with two lines one on each side of the circle - what does this mean?

That is the brake pad warning light meaning the pads are worn and need to be replaced. When you take your wheel off and look at the pads, there should not be much pad left. You will need to replace the sensor also since the light comes on when the sensor is worn down. Hope this helps

Icon pops up. A circle with 3 lines on each side.

Sounds like a brake pad warning light. There are 'sensors' in your front brake pads to let you know when they are low, if they are genuine audi pads then you usually have quite a bit left on the pads when it first warns you. Worth getting them checked out though and the rear as they're not monitored. This link should help.
