No fusible link will be found on the brake light wires. That stuff is all under hood and just on a couple of power wires. If you don't find a blown fuse, then your brake light switch is faulty or just needs adjusted if the wires are connected to the button switch behind the brake pedal.
That block head sealer is what's causing the problem. Most likely it has coagulated at a prime spot and plugged up the water flow. That stuff can make for bad flow restrictions. I would reove the lower radiator hose and connect a garden hose to it and turn the hose on to back flush the engine. Leave the water run for a good while and see what comes out of the upper hose you disconnected from the radiator. You don't want that trash going back into the radiator and plugging it up. Back flush the radiator seperatly.
Do you have any idea what ignition system it has, as there were 2 or 3 used in around those years on the AMC products. If it's the HEI system, I'd suspect (1) pickup coil in distributor, or (2) module in distributor. If it's not HEI, let us know and we can help further.
oil pan will need to be removed.a small dent could be hammered out from inside,if its cracked,welding is a possibility,but care must be given to maintain correct alignment at gasket surface to avoid leaks.
a replacement pan might be available after-market,or from an auto recycler [junkyard] .specifics of engine displacement & application will be required to order matching part.
Without more info, things that come to mind are vapor lock and old spark plug wires and failing fuel pump. ....Could put a wet towel around the carb and fuel lines as a test. ....A partial test of plug wires would be to open the hood while it is running at night---and you can often see the spark shorting out to any nearby metal--and especially if a particularly bad section; remember that they are carbon core which is high resistance (to lower radio interference) and the current path would rather go to metal than down the more resistive path of the spark plug) ..could pull off a connection from the fuel pump to check the pressure, though a bit hard and still keep it running without a tee....should also look for leakage around the fuel pump--often a sign that the rubber diaphragm is leaking/failing. ...all hail the memory of the Rambler..
If you want total horsepower get a turbo kit to put in there. You know there is plenty of room and overall nothing will stand close to putting power into that motor. I suggest a full rebuild before you do. Camshaft and roller rockers and such will see a minimal gain that it wont even be worth it. Better off finding a 401 or something to put in if you want real power.
