2005 starter wiring diagrams from ignition switch to starter soliniod

The ignition switch does not go to the starter solenoid . Pin 87 at the starter relay sends B+ voltage to the starter relay . Do you know what a starter relay is an how it works ? The ignition switch is an input to the PCM - engine computer . When the PCM sees this B+ voltage from the switch it energizes the starter relay sending B+ voltage to the starter solenoid . http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html free wiring diagrams !

Why doesn't it start?

Is it automatic or manual assuming automatic for the moment
If it is automatic try to start it in ever gear by holding the ignition key all the way on and pulling the selector slowly between the ranges
If the starter catches and engine starts the inhibitor switch needs adjusting if not go to the next step which is for automatic & manuals. bridge the solenoid power wire with the main battery wire.
If this causes it to start with the ignition in the on position then manuals may have a faulty ignition switch automatics may have the inhibitor switch wires disconnected or a faulty ignition switch.
if the solenoid goes click click faulty solenoid or if no starter action happens then the the starter is cactus

Ford 1100 tractor diesel 5 port ignition switch with glow plug git a new one need help wiring it what cable go were Need a diagram if possible

Are the glow plugs single or dual wire if they are twin or dual wire one wire is positive and one is negative. I will base this on twin wire
I hope it is a negative earth system as I won't bother with positive earth instructions at this stage.
Get a multi-meter that has alligator clips on the cables attach black to a good ground then with the solenoid power wire removed on the starter (so it wont crank) get someone to hold the ignition switch in the on position, then test each pair of wires one will show voltage this is the positive one (mark each positive wire) now release the starter switch and change the multi-meter to ohms test the wires that did not show as active they should show good low resistance (hopefully 0) connection. now you can reinstall the glow plugs making sure positive on the glow plugs is paired with active positive wires that were marked then attach ground wires to the glow plugs.
Reattach the solenoid power wire and try starting it

2000 7.3 stalls going 70 mph or anytime have to turn key to off position before it will restart

You can get a free wiring diagram and fusebox layouts at Autozone.com. Just register your truck on their site.

If you look at the wiring diagrams you should see that the starter lockouts and shift interlock is a separate process. Neutral is a position which allows the starter to work.

What you are having problems with is the RUN circuit on the ignition side. You could have a bad ignition switch. The switch should have an Ignition Relay in the Powerbox. If this is the Diesel, they have a KILL circuit to stop the engine that is different than a gas engine since the Diesel fires by compression.

So looking at your wiring diagram, you would be looking for a connector or component which could cut out intermittently. I am thinking more of a Relay because you have to reengerize the circuit by turning the ignition switch to OFF, before going to CRANK, and then RUN. Most of the time, the starter interlock only controls the start circuit.

Another possibility is the Antitheft. If the KEYreader loses communication with the Security system, it may stall. I know that vehicles will not start without the correct key or if an unprogrammed Blank is inserted.

I hope my solution helps.

1996 dodge 3500. new oddesy battery. and replaced the ignition switch and wont turn over. have power to radio and lights.but wont start.

Gas or diesel? Automatic or manual? How long have you owned the vehicle? I ask this last question in order to determine if perhaps you have an aftermarket alarm system. If the alarm system has malfuctioned it will dissable the starter current between the ign switch and the starter solenoid. If you have recently purchsed the vehicle ( within the last few years and such) you may not be aware that an alarm was installed. This causes problems for people when they try to diagnos a problem like yours and think that the starter solenoid wire comes out of the ign switch and goes straight tho the starter solenoid ( and it does), but not if it has an alarm inbetween that is not on any factory wiring diagrams.

Also you might check all of the battery cables and ends to make sure that not only voltage, but high current can pass through the systems such as what is demanded by the starter.

If it has an automatic transmission it may have a bad or mal-adjusted nuetral safty switch. Sometimes if you hold the ignition switch in the start position and move the shifter it will start in a diferent position than park or nuetral. Be sure to hold the brake while doing this test incase it does start and is in gear.

And last but not least, is the starter functional? Jumping the solenoid will usually answer this question.

Just some food for thought!

More questions? Just ask!

350 Chevy starter wiring diagram needed this engine has a points style distributer there are 3 wires plus the large battery cable Solinoid Power Alt Output Ign Switch Start THANKS

IF YOU HAVE A POINTS TYPE DISTRIBUTER, THE WIRING WILL BE: TO ENERGIZE THE STARTER SOLENOID A LARGE, ABOUT A NUMBER 12 OR 14 GAUGE WIRE WILL GO TO THE INNER MOST SMALL TERMINAL ON THE STARTER SOLENOID. IT MAY BE PURPLE IN COLOR. THE SECOND SMALLER WIRE SHOULD GO TO THE OUTER SOLENOID TERMINAL AND GO FROM THERE TO THE + TERMINAL ON THE IGNITION COIL. THIS IS FOR BY PASSING THE RESISTOR WIRE FROM THE STARTER IGNITION SWITCH. THE LARGER BATTERY CABLE WILL GO TO THE UPPER TERMINAL ON THE STARTER SOLENOID. THERE MAY BE AN ADDITIONAL BATTERY FEED WIRE TAKE OFF FROM THE STARTER BATTERY TERMINAL POST ON THE SOLENOID FOR OTHER ACCESSORIES. THIS TYPE OF SYSTEM (POINTS TYPE) WAS TYPICALLY DONE AWAY WITH IN 1975 WHEN THE HEI DISTRIBUTOR CAME OUT.
