Probably from the overflow hose reservoir next to the radiator. When a car is ran it heats up and the coolant expands into the reservoir and some may go out the overflow hose. When it cools down there will be coolant in the white plastic reservoir and the engine will **** that up back into the engine until it fills up and the process will start over again. Just make sure the reservoir has fluid in it.

I have a 2000 mazda millinia and it is overheating and the coolant is leaking. Could you tell me what some of the problems may be?

Hello, the thermostat on the Mazda Millenia is the heart of the coolant system. The thermostat regulates the flow of coolant to your motor and ensures your Mazda runs cool at all times. The thermostat acts as a valve to allow just enough coolant to flow through the system to maintain the engine temperature. When the engine temperature cools, the thermostat will close and pressurize the coolant. This cycle is what keeps your engine running cool.

To remove the thermostats follow this steps:
1. Pull the hood release latch under the steering wheel. Access the engine compartment to replace the thermostat.

2. Remove the top radiator hose by unscrewing the hose clamps with a flat-head screwdriver. The hose clamp may have a hose clamp requiring pliers. This clamp will have two tabs on it. Pull the tabs together to loosen the hose clamp.

3. Remove the bolts at the top of the thermostat assembly. The radiator hose will stop at the thermostat assembly.

4. Remove the top portion of the thermostat assembly. The thermostat will be sitting in the bottom portion.

5. Remove the thermostat with your fingers. The thermostat is positioned a particular way. Remember the position it was sitting in the housing.

And for installing the thermostats follow the following steps:

1. Place the new thermostat in the housing. Remember the position of the old one.

2. Lay down the gasket around the surface of the housing. Scrape off the old gasket with a putty knife or a razor blade.
3. Tighten the housing back together. You will want the housing snug to help create a seal for the assembly.

4. Install the radiator hose back on the assembly and the radiator. Tighten the hose clamp snug.

5. Refill the coolant level back to full. Some coolant may have been lost during the replacement.

Got a 2000 millenia s it knocks sounds like its

sounds like the water pump bearing is worn out and has detroyed the water pump shaft seal.
coolant is leaking thru the seal area ,due to the bearing worn out --hence throwing the water pump pulley out of alignment.
The water pump pulley runs of the timing belt.---hence the knocking --either from the pulley or belt chaffing against the timing cover or even throwing the engine timing a few degrees off.
Need to replace water pump and timeing belt and anything else that may be damaged.
That's why, when ever you do a timing belt always do the water pump too.

Need a diagram to locate thermostat on 2000 mazda millenia

Hello,\ The thermostat is located in the thermostat housing at the engine side end of the upper radiator hose. You have to drain the engine coolant from the radiator until it is below the level of where the thermostat is.

Mazda millenia problems

here are a few problems to look out for:

Check-engine light: Check engine light comes on due to carbon buildup on the exhaust valves of 2.5L engine. (1995-02)

Engine noise: Some engines make a metallic tapping noise requiring a new friction-gear spring on the camshaft. (1995)

Headlights: The headlight drain hoses can get kinked by the aiming screws causing fogging. (1995-96)

Keys: It may be hard to turn the ignition key because the steering shaft is not positioned correctly. (1995)

Steering problems: The steering wheel may be off center requiring adjustment of the tie rods. (1995). You can also have a look at the following website where some owner have given their opinions on owning one.

Exhaust leak? Please describe. Make sure correct spark plugs were used (I think gap distance makes a difference, but ask a local mech or store parts employee) and the intake manifold is put back on with correct torque specs. Make sure there are no leaks in the air intake hose, air box, etc as this will effect performance.
