Which one did you change? upper or lower? or both?
the spider injection sys. is a piece of you know what. and I hate it as much as you do. it takes 55-65 psi of fuel pressure to fire those injector popets. If you have to take off the upper intake again, replace the regulater on the spider assy. since your in there. and look for strong spark at the plug, the type of spark that jumps at ya and bites you when your not lookin.

If it runs good after its running it could just be the timing off. they are extremely touchy on these trucks. It needs to be or – 2 degrees of zero to work correctly. Coil wires are another very touchy subject on these. They need to be perfect or they will jump spark and cause hard or no start conditions. Must be set with a scan tool
There is a good write up on the intake at for info on this.

Crank truck up and turn it off, pull the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose off and see if it has fuel in it. If so that is your problem. Sometimes after you drive them and shut it off the fuel will leak into the intake causing a hard start problem. Just fixed a GMC 5.3 that way .

Did intake gaskets now truck turns over but will not start it's a 2000 chevy V6 4.3L vortec , I think it's a timing problem . started out on #1 TDC then whent 180 deg still no good

Pull out the # 1 spark plug. (Front left or drivers side) Rotate the engine by hand on the crank shaft pulley bolt with a socket, making sure you turn it the direction that the engine rotates. With your finger in the spark plug hole, you will feel compression pushing your finger out, then you want to stop turning as the number one piston reaches the top. You are now on T.D.C.
Your rotor should be pointing at the number one spark plug.

I have a 1993 chevy blazer 4.3. We replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump. When I start it up it starts okay. Once I drive it and let it sit for about 30 minutes or so it takes a couple of times before it...

Is it a vortec engine if it is your fuel injector may be the problem. Chevy ran one injector on the vortech engine it is under the upper intake manifold, it has 6 plastic hoses running to each cylinder under the manifold. if one of these hoses are leaking its dumping raw fuel into the manifold during hot soak. that fuel is getting picked up by intake air when trying to start. and flooding it out hence hard to start. gasoline evaporates rather quick so what fuel was in the manifold when you park for the night has evaporated by the next morning so no raw fuel for intake air to pick up easy start. Seen this problem many times. pretty easy fix but a bit pricey around $200

I would definately check around the intake gaskets with any spray lubricant or cleaner.Do this while the engine is running. If it starts to stumble then concentrate the spray until you pinpoint the area of fault. This is all I have to offer without being there. Good luck,Dana

Engine wont start without priming with gas first, then runs well

i have the same problem on a 98 jimmy 4.3 4x4.
i replaced the fule pump and have good pressure.
new wiers & coil (good spark) no MIL & no codes.
will only start when primed. it will run & drive all day
with no problems.
but once it has been turned off (warm or cold) i will
have to prime it once again to start it.
i have another engine that was in it before it spun a bearing.
it ran fine so i know all parts are good.
i swaped the mass air flow and throttle body but i still have
to prime it everytime to start it. am i forgetting something?
should i swap out the intake with the injectors?
any help would be sweet. thanks.

Hello, it seems that you have intake gaskets leaking. I'll bet you have the vortec 350. This is a common problem with the vortec, Gm uses plastic intake gaskets and they blow out over time usually to the externally but yours is internally. It is a pretty easy fix for the average mechanic to do. Thank you

Hard to start chevy 350 vortec

You will need to do a fuel pump pressure leak-down test, the pump must not loose more than 5 PSI overnight, u will need a cheap fuel pressure test guage, the test port is on the fuel supply rail to the injectors on the intake manifold, it looks like a tire valve but metal with a plastic cap on it, u may be able to borrow this guage from Kragen, Autozone or a parts store like them, if not they are very cheap, less than $20 US. Run the engine with the test guage hooked up, turn off the engine and then check it in an hour or so, if it drops more than 5 PSI then u will need to replace the fuel pump in the gas tank. One note make sure the connection for the guage is tight with no leakage or the test is invalid
