Already took it to Auto Zone and the guy said it was an emmission problem. Probably small leak some where and I just needed to take it to the dealer and have the light turned off.

Hi,

As the check engine light is ON, you need to take your vehicle to the nearest autozone . As the check engine light is ON, this confirms that there is an error stored in the memory of the car computer.Once you scan the car, you would get certain codes. Let me know the codes and i would be able to follow up from there. There is no point of wasting you time on speculations when scanning the car would most probably tell us the root cause of the problem. For more about check engine light, read :-

http://www.fixya.com/cars/r4008552-check_engine_light_being

If you have the scanner, you could also scan the codes with it without taking / towing the vehicle to autozone.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

SOURCE: check engine fuel light on has water in the fuel

To be on the cheap side will cost more than just draining your gas tank. **** IT OUT and analyze the gas. If you determine that it was good gas then put it back in the tank.

You can buy a **** hose (or 1/2 inch tubing) anywhere. Good Luck.

My 1999 Chrysler Sebring jxe convertible will not start, but does turn over. How do I troubleshoot this problem?

Start by ensuring any immobiliser is disengaging.

To start, an engine needs a decent cranking speed, compression, timing, the right amount of fuel and a quality spark.

Discovering why an engine doesn't start means working through that list of requirements until the fault is discovered. Checking the ignition components and spark is usually the easiest to begin with.

It is worth knowing too much fuel can also prevent an engine starting...

Why won't my truck start?

I am presuming ( the engine is turning over but will not fire up)..
Try this. Look at all the fuses in the fuse box. Then look at all the fusible links in the wiring (usually in engine compartment). Then check ignition wiring for break or loose connections. If you find nothing there, you need discover if the fuel is getting to the engine. If not diagnose why not. If it is, then figure our if the plugs are getting enough power to spark enough to fire the fuel while under compression. If not then diagnose why not.

Just changed the fuel pump in 2005 Jeep liberty, after car wouldn't start and discovered it had no fuel pressure. Once the pump was changed car started right up and ran fine for about half a day, then...

See if the fuel is reaching the engine by loosen the fuel pipe before the injectors if not, change the fuel filter the one in the tank and the one next to the engine and bleed the fuel line it might be an airlock.

I had the same problem with my Passport and it was the fuel pump going bad. The pump was not producing enough pressure to get the fuel into the fuel system. A local shop discovered the problem when they did a pressure test on my fuel system.

May have a grab bag of problems.

For starters, check running fuel pressure and also check for proper operation of fuel pressure regulator. Dirty injectors could play a role here

If fuel filter hasn't been replaced, might be a good time to do so.

Look at condition of plugs, wire, and air filter. All of these could contribute to problem.

As to the testing showing both the cam position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor being bad at the same....it's certainly possible, but in my mind, a little unlikely. There may be a deeper issue here that your man hasn't yet discovered.

The description "seems to be choking for air" really makes me think of fuel starvation. If it were me, the first thing I'd do is replace the fuel filter and see what (if any) difference that makes.

In any event, good luck! Hope this was of some small degree of help to you.

I may be wrong, but it almost sounds like you've a bad ground. first spot would be to check your 'negative' terminal on your battery. try cleaning it up a bit. From the way you explain, I understand when you draw more power from your battery, it's too much to handle, and shuts truck off?

if that doesn't work, just try wandering around and finding and cleaning up grounds.

2004 ford exploerer misfiring. Fuel injector cleaner has been added, plugs and wires have been replaced and vacuum leaks were discovered and repaired and vehicle is still doing the same thing

If it is a constant misfire, you can use a laser thermo to measure exhaust temp. The one that is missing will be about 20 degrees cooler. Once located, you can use a noid light to determine if the system is telling the injector to fire. You can also use a noid light to check the individual coils if your explorer uses them. Remember the four things an engine must have are:
  1. proper air/fuel mix
  2. spark
  3. compression
  4. timing
