Differential(or something) slips shakes thumps(sounds like gears missing a tooth or something) when accelerating cold on turns, it stop when warm

I would check the differential fluid see if it is low theres a fill hole on top sounds like not lubricated right

Could be as simple as a defective tire. I had a similar incident when I drove over wet tar. A mass stuck to one of the wheels. You can check for transfer problems by grasping the linkages and shafts and shaking them for loosness.

Why does the rear differential thumps from starts to 15 mph?


Check the fluid in the differential, and when you can, get a small sample of the heavy oil that is in there, and see if there is any ground up metal in it.
Shake the drive shaft back and forth where it enters the differential, there should be just a little looseness. If these is just a little,
please check the u-joints on the drive shaft.
Sounds like one has failed.
Normally you can grab the u-joint and shake it, and feel the looseness, however, you may choose to look more closely and disconnect each u-joint partly to see if there is bearing failure.
For every differential failure, there are about 25 or more u-joint failures.

The larger tires don't have a thing to do with the problem. I'm sure you have a conventional open differential. Your problem id probably with the spider gears in the differential. Sounds like you may have a chipped tooth in there. When you are traveling in a straight line all is good. When you initiate a turn the outside wheel turns faster than the inside wheel. If the spider gears have a broken tooth then this will create a problem when the left and right tires begin to turn at different rates of speed. If the gear doesn't mesh correctly and the tooth tips collide momentarily you will get the pop or a harsh jolt through your truck. You need to remove the cover plate and see if the spider gears are missing any teeth. Look in the bottom of the differential housing when you remove the cover. You will need to replace the spider gears. The bigger tires and heavier wheels may have caused your initial problem. When you place taller tires on the truck you place extra stress on the gears. If you went to 35"s or something like that you have probably broken a tooth or gear. Especially if you like to smoke the tires on a turn.

My car is making a jerking/thumping feeling. I thought at first i could just feel the bumps in the road but it's gotten worse and def not the road. It mostly happens when I accelerate. What could it be?


This could be due to the gear that the car is running in as its accelerating. In a low gear, the engine will produce a shaking feeling, and the rpms will drop very low. There really is no fix for this, the gear position is determined by the car's internal computer. As soon as you've reached enough speed, this shaking should subside, as the speed/gear ratio has reached its ideal position. If this doesn't sound like what you are experiencing in your car, then it might be something more serious.

My 1998 ford explorer 4x4 while accelerating has a bumping feel


We had a 1997 Ford Explorer that did something very similar. We thought the transmission was going out, but it was the exhaust manifold gasket. Cost us a couple of hundred at the dealer to get it fixed, but that was a few years ago.

Your car overheating is either low coolant or its the thermostat. The thermostat is what tells the car to add coolant and turn on fans.
Your tranny slips could be because low transmission fluid, which was the cause with my VW. Or your tranny is bad, which is common with VW.
When your car shakes when you accelerate does it seem like its choking?
