On the backside of the drum there is a hole that you put a flat head screw driver in there and keep working the wheel down and it will release the brakes make sure you use jack stands not a jack so dont get hurt hope this helps

How do you adjust the rear brakes, They are out of adjustment

In a perfect world , your rear DRUM brakes are self adjusting.
You simply place the vehicle in REVERSE , and while rolling backwards pump the brakes in a non violent manor.
However , the adjusters may be in poor repair and need to be adjusted manually by either removing the wheel and drum and adjusting them out far enough to JUST fit the drum back on...
OR , by using the drum brake adjustment tool and turning the adjuster thru the access in the rear of the backing plate.

I take my car in to get inspected for free ... and let them adjust them when they go to put the drums back on after the inspection.

How do i take off the brake drums on a 2003 chevy cavalier

After you remove the tire, the drim should slide off. If it doesn't then try using a rubber mallet and gently tap on the outside edge as you pull on it. Sometimes you also need to tap on the drum in the center part. I have sprayed penetrating lubes like WD-40 or PB Blaster into the seam at the center. You may also have to back off the parking brake cable or even use the adjuster to back off the shoes.

I replaced all 4 brakes on my 98 chevy malibu. for some reason i am not getting pressure back. but am being told i dont need to bleed the brakes. should i anyway. or could the adjusted on the rear drums...

Both air in the brake lines and rear drums too far out of adjustment will cause the pedal to go to the floor repeatedly.

Bleed from the wheel that's farthest away from the master cylinder first, typically driver's side rear. Then bleed the others, ending with the one that's closest to the master cylinder. Generally, right rear, left rear, right front, left front.

Adjust the rear brakes until you hear them rub a bit as you turn the wheel, then back off a couple of notches. Be sure to use the brakes when backing up at first, let them adjust themselves up to where they should be.

1998 Chev Malibu the left rear brake locks up sometimes. We tried taking the drum off but we can't get it off? Any suggestions?

the brake shoes must be holding the drum from coming off. in the back of the drum on the backing platte, there should be a place to loosen brakes it is a open slot. use a brake tool or a wide screwdriver to loosen brakes, move tool up or down on star wheel to loosen the brakes.

Remove rear brake drum 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander

Dear Brake Drum Remover,
I'm gonna tell you how to pull this drum off, ya ready?First off, get the rear of the vehicle up in the air safely, Then pull the rear tires off. After those are off then take a gander at the face of the drums, are there shiny brass looking screws installed on the face of that drum?Ifso remove those counterclockwise, then, take a hammer a shock the face off the drum firmly about three times. Now, go to the opposite side on the face of the drum and do that again, keep on doin that until you can wiggle the drum off by hand...easy as that, any other questions get back to me. I'M HERE TO HELP!!!
