We are having problems with our starter and a friend of ours a couple of weeks ago got underneath the car and hammered the starter and it worked for a couple of days. We can't seem to remember where it is located so we can tap it again. The car won't start and we now it's the starter. Can you help?

Have a 1997 Land Rover discovery, it was working fine before it just wouldn't turn on the next morning any ideas? -180,000 miles Bought it 3 weeks ago Had just passed smog if it matters

Diesel or petrol? Either way, does the starter crank? If so, you probably have a fuel delivery problem. If not, check the battery also the starter solenoid - give the latter a good bash wit h a hammer to loosen any rust - quite common.
Put a meter across the battery terminals - if less than 12.5 volts or so, get an auto electrical to do a load test on the battery before replacing it

I have a 93 Geo never had a problem with it until about 2 weeks ago and now it won't start with the key but will push start real easy

Check the starter wire, mine gets loose and gives me problems. Also may have a dead starter coil, try giving it a good hit with a hammer (to shake with inside up a little). Or. Take it off and have auto zone test the starter.

I put put my key in the ignition and turn it and my car does not make a sound. My car was good like a week ago and i haven't drove it in a few weeks Can you tell me the problem?

It don't do a Click sound ? A bad connection or Starter problem, take an hammer or a pipe and tap it on the starter and try it, it should work, if you need to do that everytime, replace starter !

2006 Torrent driven without any problem this AM. Left home again drive to store. come out of store approx. 3 minutes later, car not start, just clicking sound. Was able to get a battery boost. car drove...

Sounds like the starter. If you can locate it,tap on it with a hammer 3 or 4 times and try to restart. It may take several tries but should eventually start because starters don't quite fail 100%,they just kind of get stuck. If you can't find the starter, call a couple of parts stores or a dealer, someone is always willing to tell you for free to attract your business. It should work and you need a new starter.I put in a used one a couple of years ago and no problems yet,but the decision is yours.Good luck! Wont turn over

The starter is most likely the problem, tap on the starter lightly with a hammer while trying to start the engine, dont get run over doing this it will take two people,if the engine starts, the starter needs replacing.

I have a 2003 chevy tahoe with about 150,000 miles. The engine light has been on for couple of months now, but I have had no problem. This morning, it won't start. The lights and radio comces on.

Have you ever replaced the starter? If not you should have it tested, GM's have common starter problems and your vehicle is in the age bracket for starter to go bad.The easy fix is to have someone turn the key like they were going to start it while you get underneath the truck and hit the starter with a hammer a few times while they are trying to start the vehicle. If the vehicle starts then you know you have a starter problem, if not, back to the drawing board.

A few weeks ago i started my 84 S10. It normally starts fine. After i turned it off i tried to turn it back on and it wont do anything. everything works like the radio and everything. When i turn the key...

This sounds like you may have a starter issue. Have someone in the vehicle to try cranking and hold it in this position. You go underneath and attempt to tap the starter with a small hammer to see if it frees it up. If it does, replace your starter. Let me know if you need anything further.

I have a 1994 ford crown victoria I tried to start it the starter turned over a couple of time then stopped like someone turned off a switch I turned on the headlights and tried to start it but nothing...

reach underneath and hit the starter housing a few times with a hammer,if it now works either replace the brushes in the starter which cost about $20.00 ,or replace the starter which costs about $90.00.(parts only for both estimates)

Starter operates intermitanly. for the last week the starter motor has a job to engage,i have to keep turning the ignition switch on and off until it engages.

Had same problem. Have to lift the car so you can crawl under the engine. Just to the rear of the engine from underneath you will find the main lead connected to the starter, remove the rubber cover and undo the nut and clean the connector and terminal with some emery paper and replace then smear some grease on. This worked a treat on my sedona
