Front end grinding sound

I have a 2002 Intrepid 2.7L that just started making a grinding sound. It sounds like another motor is running. It is not loud but it sounds like a blower or something. This happens when the car is moving only. The tranny shifts fine and there are no "engine lights" on. I hoping this is just a CV joint but it may also be the transaxle. If anyones had this experience I am just looking for some ideas on where to start.

1998 dodge caravan. At first had a squeaking noise and husband replaced the serpentine belt. the squeaks was still there, we had the belt checked and they said it was on correctly. When i first bought the van all of the front panel lights blinked where the heating an ac selections were at. the heat worked great and we could push one of the buttons and new it would work, but with the lights blinking. The other day my rear wipers went crazy and I never touched the buttons. after hitting the dash couple of times the rear winshield wipers stopped and so did the light. But i wasn' until a couple weeks later that now ther is no blinking light, there is also nothing workin but the heat. has anyone had such problems. please tell me if you know?

    Sincerely Susan Martis

My '99 Intrepid at 132k mi had a sound like a pan of rocks rolling around in the front end. The engine fan and the A/C fan were shot. Replacement of fans and a couple of belts (serpentine and another) cost about $800 at the dealer in May 2006. Still going strong at 152k, but should replace the steering gear box.

My 2002 Kia sedona van was going down highway , it made a grinding sound , motor died , now starter just clicks, motor won't turn over : whats could be the problem ?

Starter clicking, not enough power to turn motor over. Check the battery, make sure charge is full. If it is, your starter is shot, replace it

2004 stx f150 right front wheel grinding noise,

I agree with duane_wong on this one ( not like he was looking for my approval :) ), it sounds like a problem with the IWE ( Integrated Wheel End ) on that side.
Quick test, when you are in 4H ( or 4L ) does the noise still happen ?
I would say cracked vacuum line to the IWE, or a problem with the vacuum diaphragm in the IWE. You can test by having the motor running in park, and in 2H, and check the vacuum line at the IWE for vacuum. Make sure you test to the vacuum line, not the vent line ( ends in the engine compartment, not hooked to anything )

This is a block diagram of the IWE vacuum system

most probably starter motor bendex. bendex runs in bush witch gets dry and starts making a noise. starter must be removed and bendex/ bush surface lubricated.

My 2002 Dodge Neon makes a loud, almost grinding noise in the front end which is worse in the morning and lessens as it drives and warms up. Hear the noise only at lower speeds. There is no vibration...

I'd say there's no grease left in the CV joint boots, if it's front wheel drive. Something you should check right away, as your car has about reached that age, and if you run it without grease in the boots, you'll eat up the joints in a big hurry, and that's costly and dangerous as well.

2002 Chevy Astro van front end makes grinding noise

sounds like a possible wheel bearing issue or brake pad issue!!! i would definatly have this looked at, but in the meantime, make sure that it isnt just a backing plate contacting the rotor ...hope this was helpful!!
