No you have to take the timing belt off and there is a pulley connected to the water pump and that should give you access to water pump hope this helps the water pump will look almost flush with the engine its a little thing nesr bottom of the motor

I was driving my '94 Mercury Tracer 1.9 when it suddenly died, like it ran out of gas or something, and it just will not start up. Any ideas on what could be the problem? We have changed the water pump and...

Sudden no starts are usually gas or spark (ignition) related. If you spray some starting fluid into the intake and it fires up briefly, then you know it is a fuel problem- a bad fuel pump, or less often a fault in the fuel injection circuit.

If the engine doesn't respond to the starting fluid, check for spark on a spark plug wire with the engine cranking. Purchase a cheap spark tester at a parts store. It's easy to check for spark this way, and no chance of getting a shock. Another way is to pull off a wire from a plug, take out the spark plug and reattach to the plug wire. Lay the spark plug on a metal piece of engine, where the plug threads are touching metal. That grounds the plug. Now have your helper be cranking the engine over while you watch for a strong blue spark at the spark plug tip. If you have a blue spark consistently, you can assume the ignition is working properly.

1993 Mercury Tracer running hot

"rule out" questions - is coolant level OK? Any leaks, especially around the water pump? Has the system ever been flushed. out? If this is the original radiator, it could be clogged. Is the thermostat installed correctly with spring end toward the engine?

Wont start but will turn over

Check wiring, you have accidently knocked something loose. the engine should run even without a water pump.

Replaced the radiator, heater core and thermostat and car still wont heat car is a 94 mercury tracer stationwagon

You've go so far but you havn't mentioned the water pump ! It's possibly 17 years old and due a rest. It's called a pump but it's mearly circulates the water provided the thermostat is open. It'll be a cheap fix compared to lifting the cyl head and head gasket replacement! You seem to have had some advice , replacing the difficult stuff (possibly from the supplier of a rad and heater matrix core??? ) If the car is running there is heat somewhere ! check the temprature of the Rad hoses , the will be hot (caution) after a few minutes of running. then check the two smaller hoses going thru the bulkhead (into heater matrix) and both sould be equally hot under normal conditions. If not .... pump replacement is a worthy option.

My 94 tracer wagon has a place to add coolant (not the radiator) do i put coolant full strainght or half water?

The typical ratio is 50/50 coolant to water. Make sure though that the coolant you bought is the concentrate undiluted type. Coolant comes 50/50 diluted as well, so you would not add water to this...

What is the mileage the timing belt should be replaced on a 94 Tracer? 1.9 engine Checked the air filter and noticed a small amount of engine oil in the filter and filter holder, what is the problem?

Your service manual should give you an exact number on the timing belt mileage, but I think it is a good investment to change it every 50 thousand miles or 4 or 5 years. Age and weather can be as devastating on a belt as mileage and I found out the hard way that you don't want that thing to break while you are driving somehwhere. It should also be replaced any time you replace the water pump if they share a space in the engine and it isn't brand new already. If you or someone you know can do the work you can save hundreds of dollars by doing it yourself.

Mercury Tracer

Check your heater lines that come from the engine block and go behind the engine into the firewall. Check the sides of your engine for seepage anywhere.
