Question about 1998 Mercury Tracer

Open Question

AC is not working properly in 1998 Mercury Tracer 4-D wagon. There is voltage at the proper terminals at the AC and vent control at the dash, but voltage does not arrive at compressor. Compressor and AC were working when it got power. Mechanic is having trouble tracing wires and would like to see wiring diagram. So, I would like to find a wiring diagram for 1998 Mercury Tracer 4-D wagon to provide the mechanic so he can fix the AC. I found another website that offers wiring info (for $4), but it just listed the color codes for the different wires for various options I mostly don't have (e.g. remote start, power windows and locks), but nothing for AC. Thank you for yoru assistance.

SOURCE: serpentine belt for 1998 mercury tracer

Hey there MSM,

  • Get a 14mm or 9/16" socket and a long handled ratchet or breaker bar.
  • Get the belt around all the pulleys except the A/C compressor or Alternator. The routing diagram is on one of the radiator supports.
  • The tensioner pulley is near the Alternator toward the center of the engine. It's on a spring loaded arm. Get your socket on the center nut of this pulley.
  • Slowly pull the ratchet toward the center of the engine. The pulley will pivot on the arm allowing you to get the belt on the final pulley.
  • Slowly release the tension.
  • You're done

SOURCE: 1993 mercury tracer

To replace the headlight on a 1993 Tracer you must turn the black plastic retainer ring counter clockwise and then pull back gently. The ring and bulb should then slide out toward the engine.
Carefully grab the sides of the plug and pull the bulb out.
When replacing the bulb make sure not to touch the glass part or it will cause the bulb to burn out sooner. Place the black ring back over the bulb with the open end towards the glass part of the bulb. Fit the wiring onto the back of the bulb and insert the bulb back into the reflector. The black plastic ring has notches that fit over protrusions. Turn the black ring clockwise and your done. Test the headlight. Happy Driving

The blower motor in my 2006 mercury montego will not turn down or shut off. It got stuck once it was turned past 60 degrees. I've replaced the dash control panel and it done the same as the old one.

Check blower motor wire connector for voltage and ground. As you can see there is blower motor relay. The relay has a load side and a control side, two sides. They both have to function properly, The load side of relay is that line with arrowhead, voltage to load side, hot all the time. The control side of relay, right side in the picture needs voltage and ground to energize relay. The voltage goes hot with key on. The hvac module should control ground, the brown wire with white tracer is ground. With key on, if that wire is shorted to ground or wiring connector has a problem, the blower motor may run all the time, with key on. Shouldn't run with key off. It's been my experience that relays are usually dependable, but, you never know? At the blower motor top wire is voltage, bottom is ground, in my opinion. You can see speed controller in diagram.

AC problems for 1998 Toyota Camry

When you adjust the positions for the vents, there are electronic solenoids under the dash that open and close the proper louvers to direct the air flow. There is a chance that that control has gone bad. As far as the A/C is concerned, I would check the condensor for damage, and have the A/C checked. The charge might be low.

Ac will not blow threw vent

The ac resistor is located on the blower motor under the right side of the dash. Looks like a black box bolted to the housing of the motor. You can check the resistor by first looking to see if the thermal limiter is still good. The thermal limiter keeps other parts of the resistor from being damaged from to much heat. If there is stuff melting from between the contacts then you need to replace your resistor due to the thermal limiter damage. If no damage then check your continuity between the terminals of the resistor withan ohm meter. These are the ohm reswistance that they shopuld be within if they are not then you need to replace resistor:between terminals 2&3 8ohms or less, 2&4 1.8 and 2 ohm, 1&4 2.3 and 2.5 ohms. If all tests passed check brown and Orange wire(positive) terminal and check for voltage. There should be at least 10 volts being supplied to this terminal (when the motor is not in off position). If there is not at least 10 volts there then the problem lies somewhere between fuse panel and ac control panel. If there is 10 volts of power and it still is not working check the ground wire(orange and black) to see if the ground wire is insufficient. I don't know if you need all that but If you do end up trouble shooting you have the info you need. I hope i helped.

The proper name of the AC Vents

Try Duct Vents, Ductwork Vents, or Dash Vents. Then Dash Outlet Vent, A/C Outlet Vent, Dash Panel Vent.

You may be able to find something in a Salvage Yard. The other problem you may be having is the Dash Panels are 1 component so there may be no separate sales for just parts on the panel. Say Lear makes the Dash panels for Ford; they come to the Assembly plant already assembled.

You may need to take off the Dash panel anyway to be able to pry out the old vents if you can get replacements. You would help yourself alot by going to a Salvage yard and seeing how stuff comes apart so you don't break your parts.

Now that you know the name of the parts, try a Dealer and ask if they can get new vents or not.

Were is the horn on a mercury tracer 1998

the horn is not the problem here, this is

In most cases this problem is caused by the rotating ribbon circuit contact under the steering wheel having a broken filament, the part is known as a clock spring contact, u will need to properly disarm the airbag and remove the steering wheel to access the part. WARNING: Failure to disarm the airbag system can result in an unexpected Airbag deployment and possible serious personnel injury disconnect the battery 30 minutes prior to start of work.
