Question about 1998 Pontiac Sunfire

Just replaced the tranny and changed the oil now have oil leak just to the lower right of the oil filter (as if looking under the hood), 1998 pontiac sunfire 2.2

Sounds like the main seal is not installed correctly or has a gap or break in it

clean around the oil pan gasket area well as some oil leaks are actually rocker cover gasket and filter leaks that run down the block and appear as pan leaks.. Check front crankshaft seal as the oil from there also appears as a pan leak

In my 1980 Pontiac Lehmans there's a hesitation between gears and a minor transmission leak can I have some ideas also there is ticking under the valve cover


The first symptom on your Lemans can be a vacumn leak...check ALL rubber hoses, and the EGR valve hose for cracks, and replace as needed...a vacumn leak or imbalance can also alter the tranny shift points:(... Unfortunately the ticking under the valve cover sounds like a sticky lifter...You can try to lubricate this by changing oil...but use one quart of GM tranny fluid in place of one quart of oil...run motor for ONE day only, and then change oil again with the correct viscosity...10W30 I like Valvoline High Mileage:) Hope these inexpensive fixes work for your classic Lemans!!

Where is the engine control computer located on a 98 Pontiac Bonneville?

The powertrain control module(PCM) is located under the hood, at the left front corner of the engine compartment. Hope this is helpful.

The tranny lines are leaking so i am going to replace them tommorow but i was looking for the fill and check ports for the tranny fluid and could not find them. also i need to know the oil capacity.


I take it you have no dipstick for the transmission?? OK, while you are under there replacing the lines, you will see 2 plugs on the right side of the tranny, one high, one low, the low one is the level, the high one is the filler, when you do a filter change, you are looking at 5 qts, or a full rebuild, 13 qts. So pull the bottom plug, if fluid seeps out , it is full, if it doesn't, pull the top plug, get one of those squirt caps on there and fill it till it seep out the bottom. Make sure you get the right fluid, there are about 30 different kinds out there, yours should be dexron 2,or 3 or something like that. Hope this helps.

How do i change my own oil in my 2008 grand prix


Raise the car.
Put a pan the holds at least 2 gallons under the oil plug
Loosen and remove the bolt in the very bottom of the oil pan and remove; the oil will flow out and into the pan.
Clean and replace the oil plug, tightening it snug. the plug has no load on it, you don't have to tighten it really tight. Tight enough to stay in and seal against the oil is all that's required. Of course, you also want to enure it doesn't fall out...
Unscrew the oil filter. (Use the appearance of the new one you bought as a guide for what you are looking for.) The filter is often difficult to remove. There are special tool for removing them — you should probably get one. DO NOT USE AN OIL FILTER WRENCH TO INSTALL THE NEW FILTER.
Dump the oil ou of the old filter sufficiently to handle it without sloshing.
Put the mounting surface of the new filter and the old filter together to ensure that the rubber rings are the same. Better to find out you have the wrong filter now that after you screw it on, and have your new oil leak out.
Pour some of the new oil into the new filter. Starting the engine will fill it up, but the longer it takes to fill, the longer the engine runs without a good supply of oil. The pre-filling you do shortens that period.
screw the new filter into place. Carefully find the point where the rubber sealing ring makes contact, and tighten the filter 1/4 turn farther. Do not over-tighten the filter.
Remove the oil filler cap on the top of the engine, and pour in 5 quarts of oil.
Look to ensure no oil is leaking. I once forgot to replace the oil plug and poured 5 Qts trough the engine onto the ground. That is bad enough. But if I had not checked before I started the engine I might have destroyed the engine as well..
Check the oil dipstick to ensure you have enough oil in the engine.
If no leaks, and enough oil on the stick, start the engine without using the gas pedal — just let it rise to an idle on its own.
Look under the car for any leaks. If the oil filter is the wrong one, or is improperly installed it will leak right away.
If no leaks after 1 or two minutes, lower the car and shut the hood.

Please dispose of the used oil responsibly.

Transmission problems


they should have suggested changing tranny screen and filter if tranny isnt maintained every 20,000to 30,000 you end up with gray like particles from normal wear wich get caught in the screen and valve body wich leads to erractic shifting valve body problems eventually tranny replacement number 1 rule oil changes on motor and screen and filter on tranny prevents premature wear longer life to two major key factors
