Hi, sometimes rust seizes the operation of calipers, and the caliper PISTONS seizes solid. rectification is to replace BOTH CALIPERS ALWAYS. because if the left caliper works, but, the right do'nt then it will throw your vehicle into trafic or vice versa. you will need to take off the brake fluid pipe, but, if you use a BRAKE PIPE CLAMP and do one side first before undoing the caliper. the bleeding of the brake system is minimal it do'nt leak out so much. gerry

check the caliper it may be hanging up also check the rubber brake hose sometimes they collapse or swell causing drag either way you probably need 2 calipers and new lines(hoses) along with pads.

MY FRONT BRAKE PADS SEEM TO BE PARTIALLY ENGAGED IE. THE CALIPER PISTONS MAY NOT BE RETRACTING COMPLETELY HOW TO LOOSEN THEM UP FORD F250 PU 2001

If they are dragging there are 2 possible problems. 1st would be crud built up on the rails that the caliper moves in and out on. Clean road grime, rust, etc. and use brake grease to lube and prevent corrosion to all caliper surfaces that move when the brakes are applied and released. The 2nd possible problem would be corrosion inside the calipers. 2 fixes for that, 1. replace the calipers with new or rebuilt ones, or 2. you can get a kit to rebuild them yourself. If they don't fully release, it is most likely due to corrosion inside, not allowing the piston to completely release. Whatever you do 1, or 2, bleed the system to flush out the old fluid, otherwise you may have the same problem again, as the fluid may be contaminated (fluid absorbs moisture, never add fluid from a container that was left open or not tightly sealed), and corrosion will occur again.

Where are the caliper bolts on a 1999 Dodge Dakota front brake caliper?

They're on the top & bottom of the caliper. They should be 12 or 14 mm. Not the inner bolt that are about 19mm or bigger, those hold the entire bracket on.

2001 Dodge Dakota right front break keeps hanging up

this is caused by either the caliper piston seizing in its bore or the brake hose colapsing inside. remove the caliper and try to press the piston in with a c clamp. it should be very hard to move in according to your problem. now keep trying to press it in and crack the line at the caliper to allow some fluid to come out. if the piston moves now it is the line if not it is the caliper.
