Car takes 4-5 seconds to start

My family just bought a 2006 CLS 500 and I have to say it looks even better in person than in the magazines. But there are a few minor problems and one MAJOR problem. The MAJOR problem is that the car takes 4-5 seconds to start, and sometime it FAILS to start!! Has anyone else had this problem? If yes, what was the problem and did MB resolve the problem?

Dunno if this is related but my E class had a similar problem before when I first bought it. It had difficulty starting and sometimes it just fails to start and the problem was because the crankshaft sensor malfunctioned.

How do i reset the esp ecu on my 2006 mercedez cls 500?

Please take your car to a professional to reset the ECU.

The difererence between having the dealer reset your ECU and you doing it is that the dealer only clears the faults, the ECU has a memory, so when you reset your ECU, it must basically re-calibarte itself and learn about all your car's systems from scratch.

1. Center your steering wheel.
2. Make sure your windows are all the way up
3. Make sure your sun roof is completely closed
4. make sure your parking brake is released
6. Turn off your stereo.
7. Make sure you have your stereo's Anti-theft code
8. Turn off your heat/AC blower
9. Turn off your lights
10. Make sure your doors are UNLOCKED.

Reset Steps:
Open your trunk and disconnect the negative side of your battery, wait 60 seconds and re-connect it.

Turn the key to position 2 (DO NOT START YOUR ENGINE)

1. Reseting your windows: Run windows down to the dwn/up full stop, then hold an extra 5 seconds (you might have to run these to the full up/dwn position an inch at a time, just keep going until you hit full open/closed position, then hold an additional 5 seconds). This re-enables the "auto up/dwn". Do the same thing with the sunroof. If it didn't work for the sunroof, then try this: remove the sunroof fuse, then re-insert it. then do the same procedure as above.

2. Turn on your blower and make both sides go to 72 deg. by pressing both up and down buttons at the same time. This should help calibrate the ECU

3. Turn on your stereo and enter your stereo code. if you do not have a code, you'll have to get it from the dealer. or perform endless searches on the web for a fix for that.

5. Turn all of the lights on and off, including your fog lights

6. Turn the key back to position 0.

7. Turn on your engine. You will get 2 malfunctions, your ABS and ESP, These systems must be calibrated. Calibrate your ABS and ESP systems by turning the steering wheel all the way to your RIGHT and then all the way to your LEFT. then bring it back to the center. The errors should go away from your instrument cluster.

8. Let your car run at idle for about 5 minutes and then take it for a spin. Remember your ECU is still getting all the readings from all the sensors, so drive slowly first then faster... and so on.. you are basically your ECU is re-learning your car.

Hope this helps, and remember, you are doing this at your own risk!

Cls 500 is leaning to left u can hear a whistling sound when rising

I just bought a preowned CLS 500 and recently noticed the same issue. Whistling after I start and stop the engine. "Car too low" notice if I hit a speed bump too fast. Etc.
I'm guessing it has something to do with a leak in the air suspension.

Did you ever resolve your problem?

How do you reset maintenance indicator on a 2006 cls 500 mercedes

There is only 2 ways.....1 take it in to a qualified repair shop that has the diagnostics tool or buy it yourself from Autozone or NAPA. ETC. Hope this is the info you need. You might be able to find a friend that has one. They cost anywhere from 200-300 dollars.

I have a 2006 CLS 500...44,500 miles...due for service D...what does that involve???...Thank you...

Even Mercedes Service Departments cannot agree what is involved on a D service.
It is usually the 2 year periodic maintenance which includes transmission service, oil service and visual check of running components.

Most all Mercedes Dealers will write this up as a B service. It's up to you they don't over service the vehicle. Some MB dealers will sell you shocks and/or rear axle oil brake fluid flush, coolant flush and wiper replacement and who knows what else.

I suggest you find a GOOD independent Mercedes specialist and ask for a B service and report on any items needing attention.

Ask them to reset your Service FSS or oil interval reminder in the cluster, or do it's in your Handbook around page #290. iirc.

Cost can be anywhere between $200.00 and $600.00.
