thats what my brother said, about the cat. my uncle took it today to some small mechanic shop by the house. he said it might be the head. cuz cylinder two has a miss fire still. we have to go back this coming sat. and he will do some sort of pressure test. what should it read. i understand this could be a possible problem. but is there a way to tell if this head replacement is accurate? what should pressure be or whatever he is talking about. not that familiar with cars to this degree (i just know minor replacement things/typical parts). lol thanks all is appreciated to those who post. im sure there are lots of others out there looking for a solution in a similiar situation. im myself not wealthy and just want to make sure im spending my dollar with the least amount of trial and error as possible. thanks to all once again.

Have the engine checked for vacuum leaks, that will cause a high idle speed. As a 35 year veteran of auto repair I can tell you that engine flushs are a 100% waste of your hard earned money.

Back to the mechanic - sounds like either an IAC motor or TPS sensor is the problem, but also could be the throttle cable (sticking leaving the throttle not fully closed).

Use a code reader to find if any codes are present to pinpoint the problem. Auto Zone will lend you one .

It reves up real high when its cold after it warms up it has major power loss and backfires throught air tube

Sounds like a blown intake gasket. The expansion and contraction of metal from heat would cause the high idle cold and power loss when warm. Use Carb cleaner and spray along edges of intake to see if rpms change. Take your time. Sometimes, unplugging the idle air control will help you find the leak.

You probably have a large vacuum leak. With the engine running, listen under the hood for a hissing sound. Check all of the rubber lines running from the intake.

Have you replaced the timing belt? if not i would highly recommend doing so. these cars need to have the timing belt replaced before it breaks otherwise it can and will cause major engine damage.
