Are any of you running into problems starting your A4's in the winter??? My '00 A4 1.8T just won't start in the mornings unless I fully press the gas pedal down, turn the ignition, hold until car beeps a warning, and do 2 more iterations after. By the third time, it might get going. It is about -27 Celcius only. I don't have access to underground parking for the car, and it is automatic. I'm wondering if all of you are just living with the problem, or am I the only one that got the crappy one out of the lot. It is a darn shame, because I can't rely on the car when I need it, and 4 wheel drive is useless if the car won't start. I'm wishing I could go back to my 318i... at least that would start dependably at -40 and up.
Ignition related problems as well as injector problems would probably cause a fault code in the cars OBD II ECU. That leaves a fuel pressure problem. In the dark days before fuel injection, gas line icing in the cold would cause the problem you describe. It is far less common with a high pressure fuel pump in the gas tank, but it can still happen. Try adding some isopropyl alcohol (drygas) to the tank and see if the problem persists.
Assuming that you've done all this (it is under warranty and all), I would try to reproduce the problem for the dealer. Leave the car overnight at the dealer and have them reproduce the problem when it's nice and cold in the morning.
Good luck. And don't go back to the stinkin' little 318i, unless you can get one with a turbo...
