Question about 1996 Nissan Altima

1 Answer

1996 Nissan Altima crank-no start. Didn't hear the fuel pump, changed it. Still don't hear the fuel pump, still crank-no start. Float in gas tank has power, gauge reads correct. Is the relay for the float and the pump? Would the pump have power if the coils or timing belt weren't functioning? Haven't done the tailpipe trick yet, will do next...Thx

There is a disconnect for the fuel line in the engine compartment. Disconnect it at the motor and cycle the key. This will determine if your fuel pump is running. If it is not which I would assume it isnt then check the relay. If the relay is not clicking when you cycle the key then replace it. If you have low pressure then try replacing the fuel filter. This could cause low pressure and keep the vehicle from starting. If it is not fuel delivery then there is a problem with your timing or firing order.

check fuel pump. then if nothing is wrong with it, you could be losing fuel somewhere. drop the gas tank in the rear, then look inside or could be on top of it

My ALTIMA WAS RUNNING AND THEN SHUT OFF, IT CRANKS BUT WONT START

Turn the key to on, and listen under the car to see if you can hear the fuel pump running. or you could take a rubber mallet and tap the bottom of the gas tank while someone is turning the ignition over. I would almost bet you have a faulty fuel pump.

1996 Jeep Grand Cheroke Laredo...Ran tank low on fuel. Then after filling up would not start, while at the pump. So changed fuel filter...no start. Then changed fuel pump. Now does start and run yea! ...

Likely you did a bad thing to the tank float when working on it If so, it will need to be taken down (again) and checked. First though check that the gauge is getting power at the attachment harness (pump and power side should have a voltage pulse and good tank grounding.)

What do I need to check before changing a fuel pump?

Can you hear a click even if you don't hear the pump? If you don't you might want to chk. the relay. If you do than its most likely the pump. And yes the tank has to be droped to chg. pump. Also chg. fuel filter.

1995 nissan altima fuel cut off

Your fuel filter could be stopped up, injectors could be stopped up or there may even be a fuse for fuel. May also be your fuel pump, which is generally in the fuel tank. If you turn your ignition on, don't crank it, see if you can hear a whining noise coming from the gas tank neck(where you put the gas in). Hopefully that is NOT your problem.
